regan3 Posted June 1 #1 Share Posted June 1 I've read that in order to use the escalator at Canada Place upon disembarkation you need to have one hand free. Is luggage offloaded from the ship available to passengers before or after the escalators? In other words is there any difference if a passenger self disembarks or has the cruise line take their luggage off the ship in terms of being able to use the escalators? Rare Ferry_Watcher Posted June 1 #2 Share Posted June 1 The staff at the pier is just trying to keep you safe, as well as avoiding falls on the escalators (which would involve a temporary escalator shut down impacting disembarking passengers). If you are a fit up-to-middle-aged individual that looks like you can handle your luggage, there is less concern re falls. If you are older, or appear not too steady on your feet, then you will be directed to an elevator. No strollers are allowed on escalators, and young children should have an adult next to them, and ideally holding their hand. Also remember that the elevator is always an option. It might take a little longer, but it could be a safer option for some people. Also, for escalator safety, it is best to have your luggage either next to you, or behind you. If you put it in front of you, you may trip or get caught up into it at the bottom of the escalator. FYI, the position of escalator monitor is highly stressful because some passengers ignore safety advice. If there is a fall, the escalator monitor needs to activate the emergency stop and call out a warning that the escalator will be stopping immediately (so always hold on to the rail). ; )
regan3 Posted June 1 Author #3 Share Posted June 1 Understand the need for safety on the escalator, wanting to know if the luggage is available after you use the escalator or before. Not looking to be unsafe, would of course follow safety guideline and would not argue with any staff.
