tamscottc Posted June 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Hi All, We will be on the Triumph July 31st sailing, coming into Miami late friday evening (10pm). I am looking into a cheap(but clean) place to stay. I have never used Priceline but thinking it may be a way to go for this issue, as we dont want anything pricey nor expensive, just to use for sleeping. Anyone with any suggestions or any Priceline tips...Please let me know.. Thanks, Tammy
chuleta Posted June 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 16, 2004 I have gotten the Downtown Hyatt before (at the convention center) for $29.00. Nice hotel and close to the port. Check biddingfortravel for what bids are winning these days. Good luck. Mary Lynn Proud Member of O.A.T.C. OH HELL, WHERE IS MY SECRETARY??? tamscottc Posted June 16, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Thanks Mary Ann, Another newbie question.....Do I just check off downtown Miami, and then bid a certain price? Or is there a way to specifically bid for a certain hotel? Thanks, Tammy
tamscottc Posted June 16, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted June 16, 2004 So sorry Mary Lynn.....my brain is half in a fog and half in pre cruise anxiety...I do apologize for calling you Mary Ann. Tammy
Rare finoky Posted June 16, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 16, 2004 You can not bid on a certain hotel. You only bid on a certain zone. The downtown hotels on Priceline are all very good for Miami. Most end up with the Hyatt or the Sheraton. You should be able to get one for between $29-$45. Catrin Posted June 16, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 16, 2004 The key is to bid for Downtown Miami 3 Star. There are five different hotels that are 3star they use on Priceline.. and all are similar ... We stayed at the Doubletree for 45.00 and it was just fine... nothing special, but a nice clean room and hot shower. tamscottc Posted June 16, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Thanks All, My bid of $35 for downtown was denied. Do I just keep trying in small amounts? Or some other trick? Tammy
TamaLee Posted June 16, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Tammy - You may want to review the biddingfortravel web site that Mary Lynn mentioned. This is the best way to learn how to bid on Price Line. Beerman Posted June 16, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 16, 2004 I bid 40.00 and got the Radisson in Sept. Also got them 2 years ago. Have never gone wrong with priceline.
tef43 Posted June 17, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 17, 2004 I've gotten the Hyatt downtown on two separate occasions for a $37 Priceline bid. Another option to try is Hotwire. Again, you are booking by zone and * rating, not knowing exactly which hotel you've gotten until *after* you place the order. But by using Amber's bidding site as a guide, you can pretty much guess with a high degree of certainty which hotel you've gotten by checking the amenities they offer. PokrChick Posted June 17, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Here's the link for bidding for travel's miami section. People post exactly what they've recently won and how they won it. Also, the forum moderators will help you with suggestions on how to bid. I never had to ask for help - I just read what had already been posted. serene56 Posted June 17, 2004 #12 Share Posted June 17, 2004 It took me three weeks of bidding and waiting the 72 hours before my bid was accepted. We did get the Hyatt for 35.00. I say keep trying or add the airport vicinity.
