Recommendations for transfer to MIA on morning of debarkation

We intend to drive from Miami to NYC and do not want to stay in Miami.

I have read, and been told, that lines for rental cars at locations near the cruise port can be very long.

It would appear that on the morning of our debarkation, as many as 18,000 others might be debarking.

I am wondering whether it will be better to go to the airport to pick up a rental car?

I'd appreciate some advice as to how to get to the airport after debarkation, because if we don't drive to NYC, we will fly.

Yes -taxi or Uber/Lyft to MIA car rental center and get your car there.  The ride to MIA from POM should take about 20-30 minutes depending upon day of the week and traffic.

Many thanks.
