Funny how Soapy was an outlaw, yet he has a big display in the museum. Yeah Reid. It definitely confuses people I heard one lady telling her husband or whatever that soapy smith was the founder of the town.
Rare Saint Greg Posted August 17 Author #902 Share Posted August 17 There was a rock slide here in 2022 which is why we can’t walk to the ships on this side. I think that may be why my itinerary was changed from Skagway to icy strait in 2022. 9
Rare Saint Greg Posted August 17 Author #903 Share Posted August 17 Each cruise line gets to paint a rock their first time here. Some of them are around 100 years old. 16

Rare Saint Greg Posted August 17 Author #908 Share Posted August 17 (edited) Paul is our driver. He was a bartender in Tempe, AZ in 1990 and someone left a pamphlet about summer Jobs in Alaska at his bar..he applied and got a job a week later. He now spends winters in San Diego but he’s been here every summer since 1990. And for 15 years he’s been bringing Rusty. They drove 3,300 miles this year. He does this for 6 months and lives on that for the year. Edited August 17 by Saint Greg
Rare Saint Greg Posted August 17 Author #909 Share Posted August 17 We went by the firehouse I was telling you about but I’m on the wrong side of the bus to show you how big it is. It’s really really big for a 900 person town.

In WWII the military found that this was a good way to move military equipment around with the railroad. So they came in here. They also redirected the river and now there are no salmon and thus no wildlife here. Enlarge image After World War II, veterans came back in droves—often with wives and children—to enroll at Yale. They were greeted by a familiar site: the ubiquitous military Quonset hut, adapted for married-student housing. The snow-covered huts featured 75 years ago on our January 1948 cover were on Whitney Avenue near the Peabody Museum. There were more near the Yale Bowl. Large Quonset huts were common on most Colleges Post World War II due to the GI Bill and the return of veterans. My parents first home was a Quonset hut when my Dad was at Yale Law School. Talk about housing shortages. I'm lucky to be alive! Edited August 17 by Stallion

Rare Saint Greg Posted August 17 Author #917 Share Posted August 17 I think I forgot to mention those poles. They’re so the snow plows know where the road is. did I delete all of those pics? Hold on.
Rare Saint Greg Posted August 17 Author #918 Share Posted August 17 I thought I had a good one showing both sides but I can’t find it. They have these all down the highway on both sides for the snow plows. They just aim the plows for the middle.
Rare Saint Greg Posted August 17 Author #919 Share Posted August 17 (edited) Let me come clean with something now. I’ve been doing this for a long time and this is something that I have never seen before. I’m not in good standing on this ship with the entertainment staff. Doing what I do here requires me working on this at all times..especially with their bad/non-existent internet. Entertainment has taken issue with me working on this thread during shows. It came up a couple nights ago. It was bad. I had a singer yelling at me after the show. The CD talked to me after the show. It was quite embarrassing. This is why I picked the “Lincoln” seat the last two nights. It’s as far away from everyone as I could find. I will not knowingly cruise with this CD again. This ship is out of Boston next year which is a route I’ve been looking at…but if I do it next year it will be with Princess. From what I can tell there isn’t an official CD schedule but I’m assuming since she’s been CD here two summers, she’ll likely be CD here next summer. Rare Saint Greg Posted August 17 Author #923 Share Posted August 17 Driver told us a bunch of stories. He said working in Skagway is like summer camp for adults. The last cruise of the season they all go out and moon the last ship going out. One year a HAL ship mooned them back.

Rare Saint Greg Posted August 17 Author #925 Share Posted August 17 I did a little extra walking for this one. This is not the way to my ship…but I think it’s good with the flag and the ship and tbs snowy mountain. 23
