bswartz Posted September 18 #1 Share Posted September 18 We are on the Explorer Nov 8 cruise with a pre and post excursion with Regent in Hong Kong and Bangkok. Dinners are on our own. We would appreciate if anyone could recommend some restaurants in these cities. We would like to eat the local food. Thank you in advance for your help. Nachosdelux Posted September 19 #2 Share Posted September 19 (edited) With all due respect, this is like asking for a restaurant recommendation in NYC. there are hundreds of great restaurants in Bangkok and Hong Kong. if you want to eat where the locals eat, then use Yelp or TripAdvisor or one of the local apps to find a restaurant nearby that appeals to you and has high ratings. I would NOT recommend asking the hotel concierge because they will steer you to a (overpriced) tourist location. It is not worth driving an across the city to find a good restaurant. If you let us know where you are staying perhaps someone can make a recommendation for a nearby place. frankly, I have not have a bad meal in any restaurant in Hong Kong or Bangkok. You do not have to spend a lot to have a good meal in either of those cities Edited September 19 by Nachosdelux
bswartz Posted September 19 Author #3 Share Posted September 19 We are staying on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, in Kowloon in Hong Kong. I hope that narrows it down somewhat. Bryan
jjs217 Posted September 19 #4 Share Posted September 19 For something totally off the wall - you can try "Cabbages & Condoms". You wouldn't go there for the food, but for the experience.

labonnevie Posted Wednesday at 02:30 PM #9 Share Posted Wednesday at 02:30 PM We stayed at the Sheraton Royal Orchid hotel. Best meal was at the Salathip restaurant in the Shangri La hotel, not far away and also on the river. Entertainment table side was included. This was a number of years ago, but just superb. jjs217 Posted Wednesday at 03:32 PM #10 Share Posted Wednesday at 03:32 PM A very lovely evening out in Bangkok, and one I enjoyed was the Mandarin Oriental's Sala Rim Naam. It's a dinner and a show. It is located across the river from the MO and you take a complimentary rice barge (which has been beautifully restored) from the hotel. The food was wonderful even though they are serving a lot of people at the same.

bswartz Posted Thursday at 08:16 PM Author #13 Share Posted Thursday at 08:16 PM In Kowloon, we made a reservation at Peking Garden. They have half portions of duck. The address is 3/F, Star House, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon. Actually, I emailed the hotel concierge and had them make the reservation for us.
