Bill S Posted March 31, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2006 I apologize if this has been asked before, but where in Amsterdam do the Viking ships dock? Is it at the cruise ship pier or elswhere? Thanks for any help!
npphotog Posted March 31, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2006 Hi Bill - The ships dock right in back or near the main train station. Really easy to walk around or thru and across a small bridge to get to the place where canal boats dock. Conveniet location to walk around and get the flavor of the city. Hope you have enough time to enjoy Amsterdam. There's a lot of talk about it not being safe. We didn't find that at all and we have visited Amsterdam 4 or 5 times over many years. Enjoy and don't just sit on the boat - walk around. Willard
Bill S Posted March 31, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted March 31, 2006 npphotog: thanks for the information! We sailed out of Amsterdam last summer and we know where Central Station and the Cruise Ship pier are--sounds like the river cruise vessels dock somewhere in between the two places. We did not get enough time in Amsterdam last summer but for our upcoming river cruise we will have 3 days there to see the sights. Looking forward to it and hope even to see Ine & her DH. Thanks again!

Bill S Posted April 1, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted April 1, 2012 cruisingrammie-thanks for the link! I don't know if Viking had that information on their website 6 years ago, when we went on that cruise, but glad they have it now. ;)
cruisingrammie Posted April 12, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 12, 2012 I know that we have been looking for information for our cruise in June. Glad to help. Viking also responded that our ship would sail shortly before midnight, meaning that we would have some time in Amsterdam prior to the sailing. jane1244 Posted April 30, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 30, 2012 Thank you Crusin' Grammy... we're leaving from Am'Dam on May 20th and this is great info! Also to know that departure is about midnight.... I've asked a few times and couldn't get a straight answer!
rjscott Posted April 30, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 30, 2012 FYI, for our Viking Idun cruise two weeks ago, we departed from the dock nearest Central Station, but returned to the dock at the Passenger Cruise Terminal. We had some time before our flight home to sightsee in Amsterdam, and the PCT location probably added another 10-15 minutes to our walk. As for it being safe, it definitely is. We didn't depart until 5AM our 2nd day there, and some onboard went over to the Red Light District to walk around after dinner. No hassles at all. (Just no photos in that area).
