best western south beach in miami? good or bad?

Hi, I am new to this board, but it has been very informative so I thought I would try it out. I am leaving on a cruise monday june 5 from the port of miami. I am flying in on friday night so my mother and I can hang out in miami for a while. I have checked for hotels near the port of miami and I found the best western south beach to be reasonably priced. I went to trip advisor though and I read some bad reviews on it. Is it really as bad as people say it is? Are there any things to do around that area? any other infor on miami and good hotels that people have liked around that area would be appreciated! thanks!

The South Florida Boat Show is that weekend headquartered in South Beach so hotels may be filling up.
