DW49 Posted March 31, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2006 This is our first time using this site or cruising on Oceana Cruises. We Booked our own air for this cruise but wer'nt aware it was so far from the Athens airport to the Piraeus terminal. Has anyone else done this, and if so, how is the best way to get from the airport to the terminal. There will be four of us traveling together. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. jfb128 Posted March 31, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2006 We got a cab at the Athens airport to Piraeus. I believe it was between 20- 25 Euros. Just ask the driver prior to getting in the cab the approximate cost. Many of the cab drivers speak some English. There are minivan cabs there for larger parties. Lisette49 Posted April 1, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 1, 2006 We are on this cruise as well. We are getting in a day early and taking a cab into the city. I am assuming we will take a cab the next day from Athens to the port. Can't wait for the cruise!! Are you spending any time in Athens? I have also read the metro is very good. ronstan Posted April 1, 2006 #5 Share Posted April 1, 2006 We are on this cruise also. I hired a private guide in Athens for the 13th who is going to pick us up at our hotel (Hilton), take us for a whole day tour and drop us off at the port. It is 200 euros. Any interest in sharing? I would alos like to share taxis in santorini. Any interest there? Ronna
YOW Posted April 1, 2006 #6 Share Posted April 1, 2006 This is good, we've finally got a little group going... OK, intros from here, it's Ari & Jen in Ottawa. We'll be arriving in Athens the day before, and staying in Istanbul 2 days post-cruise. First Oceania cruise for us. Others?
Lisette49 Posted April 2, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 2, 2006 We are Leslie and Steven from Boston. In our fifties and the first time on Oceania. (lots of times on Celebrity) We will be arriving in Athens the day before the cruise (wednesday) Staying at the Grande Bretagne right near the Acropolis. Probably do touring on our own in Athens on Wednesday and Thursday. Don't know how much jet lag we will have, so don't want to hire a tour guide in Athens. I guess we can board the ship pretty early, but depending on our sightseeing in Athens, we may not board as early as we are able. Anyone want to share a taxi to the port Thursday afternoon? We haven't yet booked any tours with the ship, but do have a tour booked in Ephesus with Levent Solmaz (got his name from cruise critic). Let's hope for warm sunny weather and look forward to meeting our fellow passengers.
ronstan Posted April 2, 2006 #8 Share Posted April 2, 2006 Are you interested in sharing a private guide in Athens on the 13th, hotel pick up, Athens sights, and Sounion to see the temple of Poiseidon, and then drop off at the dock? It is 200 euros which we could share. There are 2 of us but room for 4. Ronna
ronstan Posted April 2, 2006 #9 Share Posted April 2, 2006 If you are interested, I have hired a private guide for the 13th in Athens. He is going to take us to AThens sights and then to Sounion to see the temple of Poiseidon and then drop us at the port. It's 200 euros. We are 2 but there is room for 4 so it would be 100 euros per couple. I believe just the ride to the port can be 45. Ronna

Mr. Bill CEO Posted April 6, 2006 #12 Share Posted April 6, 2006 Leslie & Steve, We are Bill & Leslie from Sharon, MA also in our 50's. This is a working cruise for us as owners of an internet travel agency, escorting a group of 42 of our clients on the 4/13/06 Regatta. Should be a lot of fun. Most of us will be staying at the Acropol Hotel for two nights pre-cruise and two nights in Istanbul at the Surmeli Hotel. As for tours, we arranged our own private group tours in Athens, Istanbul and the various ports of call. Hope we get a chance to meet and have a few drinks together. ronstan Posted April 6, 2006 #13 Share Posted April 6, 2006 I have a private driver booked for Athens on Thurs. It's 200 euros with a A.M. pick up at hotels and P.M. drop off at the pier. I would love to have someone share it with us. I have heard that the trip to the pier can be 45 euros so for another 55 euros, we can have a private driver. We are from the Chicago area and also in our fifties. Looking forward to meeting you. Ronna
YOW Posted April 6, 2006 #14 Share Posted April 6, 2006 Hello Leslie & Steven, Bill & Leslie, and Ronna & Stan: So we've got at least four Cruisecritic couples on this sailing, possibly more... Just a bit over one week from sailaway now, and six days before we fly out. Shall we set a time and place for drinks? Say on the first sea day sometime, at Martinis? Mr. Bill CEO Posted April 6, 2006 #15 Share Posted April 6, 2006 Yow, I'll drink to that! Martini's is perfect...besides which my wife Leslie loves Martini's. Pick a time and we'll meet you there. Mr. Bill
SeaCCruiser Posted April 6, 2006 #16 Share Posted April 6, 2006 Ronstan > "We are from the Chicago area and also in our fifties." Ronna, We're in our 50's too, and from Winnetka, but are taking the Istanbul to Athens cruise on 5/17. Won't it be nice to get out of this roller coaster weather and on to beautiful turquoise blue seas. I hope you have a wonderful cruise.

Lisette49 Posted April 7, 2006 #19 Share Posted April 7, 2006 Look forward to meeting you on the 14th! Everyone have safe travels. Leslie & Steven Ronna - I think we won't take the tour of Athens with the guide. We are just going to explore on our own. See you on board. ronstan Posted April 10, 2006 #20 Share Posted April 10, 2006 What is everyone doing in Delos? We will be docked there for 16 hours. We're still looking for someone to share a driver in Athens on the 13th. Ronna
SeaCCruiser Posted April 10, 2006 #21 Share Posted April 10, 2006 Ronstan writes> "What is everyone doing in Delos? We will be docked there for 16 hours." Actually, only from 8:00 AM until noon, then the ship sails over to Mykonos. After tendering in, we strolled around this archaeological site for 30 minutes, then ran for the shade of the small museum.
