emsachs Posted April 6, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2006 Hi! Well, we are finally booked for August 20, Golden Princess to British Isles and Western Europe. We are also going to be staying in London for 2 nights at the Renaissance. Now starts the hard (but fun) part....... Can anyone recommend a tour company for London??? We are a group of 5. That includes 3 83 year old seniors, so in/out of the tube is probably not an option. I'm sure that in our 1 full day, we will want to see as many of the standard London sights as possible. (Big Ben, Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, etc....). WE would like to book this before we go. Also, is there any place that we can prepurchase show tickets for London. Anything else that anyone wants to add (restaurants, etc....) would be great. Thanks, Eric
wwinfl91 Posted April 6, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2006 HI, We were in London for week after our TA cruise on RCI's Jewel last year and still didn't see everything we wanted but you can probably pack a lot of sightseeing in the two days you have. Here are some links I gathered last year before we went about London that might help you. The first link was a Yahoo group site I set up for the cruise where the other links came from. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jewel-transatlantic-cruise/ London tube site http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tube/ London transportation options http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/ Good place to eat for lunch http://www.pret-a-manger.com/ London government site http://www.london.gov.uk/ English weather site http://www.meto.gov.uk/ London Pass http://www.londonpass.com/ London museums site http://www.24hourmuseum.org.uk/ London Net site lots of good information http://www.londonnet.co.uk/ LondonTown site http://www.londontown.com/ London Eye site http://www.londoneye.com/ Visit London web site http://www.visitlondon.com/choose_site/?OriginalURL=/ Time Out London site http://www.timeout.com/london/ British Monarchy site http://www.royal.gov.uk/output/Page1.asp Big Bus tours http://www.bigbus.co.uk/uk/html/uk_home.html Cruises on Thames http://www.citycruises.com/index.htm London tour site http://london-tour.conciergedesk.co.uk/ Another London tour site http://www.sightseeingtours.co.uk/ Site to be able to book online ahead of time http://www.expressevents.com/ Europe for Visitors England site http://europeforvisitors.com/europe/articles/index_england.htm London Theater site http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/ London walking tours was recommended on Cruise Critic http://london.walks.com/ Another London guide company http://www.grosvenor-guides.com/ Virtual London sightseeing link http://www.virtual-london.com/Sightseeing/Sightseeing-Tours/index.html Stonehenge Tours site (we used them and had a great tour to Stonehenge) http://www.stonehengetours.com/html/nonflash.htm We mainly used the tube because it was the most convenient and was included in the London Pass we got. We went to the big museums, London Tower and Tower Bridge, saw the changing of the guard at Buckingham palace, Harrods (it was right down the street from where we stayed), Globe theater, Trafalger Square, Westminster, St Paul's, House of Parliament, etc. The only organized tour we took was to Stonehenge where we got to actually go among the stones after the site had officially closed for the day. It was one of the highlights of our stay. Have a great next cruise and stay in London.
SoonerDog Posted April 7, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2006 Another option for harder to get tickets is http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk, but they charge a bit more.
WatchHill Posted April 23, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2006 Just returned from eight nights in London. We used the tube to access the many sights, though not a good choice for the seniors in your group unless they can handle escalators that move rather quickly. Through our hotel, we booked a full day's tour to Windsor Castle, lunch in a country pub, Stonehenge, and Bath through Premium Tours. This company also offers other day tours to the Tower of London, and Westminster. They picked us up at our hotel, near Marble Arch, but evening drop offs were at central locations, an easy walk back to the hotel. Our hotel concierge was also able to obtain theatre tickets. You may have to use a cab to get to the theaters - cabs are very expensive. Museums are a great value - free! Pub meals are relatively reasonable for lunch or dinner.
