TT Posted April 11, 2006 #26 Share Posted April 11, 2006 Just over 2 years ago we were on a B2B on Hal's Oosterdam and at a party we got to speak to the Captain. The Captain asked us questions and how we liked his ship. I told him I read about his ship before we booked it and used the Cruise Critic board to help make up our minds. The Captain said if I want to know what is going on aboard his ship, he reads the CC Board. We were surprised to say the least. He said alot of Captains read boards to see what they say about crew members, who is great, who was not, what they liked and what they did not. He said I hope you enjoy the ship and asked what I go by on the board. I was so glad to hear his information..........so when we take the time to write a review ........like myself I feel that we not only helping other cruisers but informing the Captain also. poetic license Posted April 11, 2006 #27 Share Posted April 11, 2006 Hi All...I Was not on your sailing but have sailed quite often aboard the Constellation. Your Master was Captain Papanikalaou. He is very porsonable & cares deeply for both his crew & passengers and it's obvious they feel the same way!! JoJo, YES! That is who the Master of the CONSTELLATION was in 11/05. He absolutely cares about his ship and all his crew and loves mixing it up with passengers. Never met a more genuine, personable Captain. The best! Cheers~ Nicki
dkjretired Posted April 11, 2006 #28 Share Posted April 11, 2006 Yes they read them and have been reading them! A number of years ago ( I believe 2001), Celebrity wanted to charge for the T-pool on Millie class ships. There was much uproar on the boards (of course, as always, the news about the proposed new charge hit the boards first - before even our TA was aware of it) about how cruises were booked with the premise that the pool was included in price that Celebrity dropped the idea. I remember that controversy very well and it was because of the uproar on these boards that the change was made. Others have reported on these boards how they have spoken to people in higher offices of the cruise line and they do watch these boards. There were a couple of posts recently about people getting phone calls from senior officials representatives. I have also noticed on occasions that members of this board all of a sudden wind up with a nice upgrade which comes out of nowhere.
Host Kewlguy Posted April 11, 2006 #29 Share Posted April 11, 2006 I don't think the majority of people realize the power they have when expressing their opinions on a popular internet web site such as cruise critic. Your words and opinions are being read by thousands of people all over the world. Sometimes I wear my cruise critic shirt around the ship just to see the reaction from the employees. It's hysterical. I also have had passengers approach me with their complaints, such as cold eggs at the breakfast buffet, too much smoke in the casino, etc. It's quite funny.
