Miami port - car rental question

We want to rent a car as close to the port as possible - after getting off Voyager. We want to rent a car for the day to store our luggage while we kill time for the day in Miami & then drop off at the airport at night. It seems that many rental companies have shuttles to airport rental locations. We don't want to spend time shuttling to the airport to get the car & then driving back to the beach for the day and back to the airport in evening. What is the closest rental car company to the pier? I have tried Alamo & National and they only have shuttles from the port to the airport. Any suggestions?

Not sure if theres an agent near the port, but....this past March rented for the day and to get to from port of Miami to FLL for an evening flight. For 2 couples it is actually a cheap way to get from the port of Miami to the FLL airport! Booked a minivan from Thrifty. Got Thrifty shuttle from the port - they make regular rounds at the port . When we arrived at the agent there was no minivan (of course). The tried to sell me on a Jeep Liberty. For 4 prople and a weeks worth of luggage???? Ended up with a Not-so-Grand Cherokee with one of our carry-ons balanced on the center console! Make sure whatever you do, get a vehicle that is big enough for your stuff, but in our case there was little we could do at that point.

What is the closest rental car company to the pier?

 

 

Avis has the closest office to the port, less then 5 minutes vis taxicab. ;)
