pnk1966 Posted April 12, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2006 I have a portable XM Radio and I was wondering if anyone knows if I will be able to get a signal? I'm traveling on the Carnival Pride 4/23/06 to the Mexican Riviera.
discjoker Posted April 12, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2006 You should be able to get a signal. I took my XM on a land vacation to Puerto Vallarta in September and it worked fine.
tbone81 Posted April 13, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2006 I took my Sirius with me in the Caribbean last summer and it worked fine, halfway...it was the southern caribbean and I had an aft balcony, so the way back up it didn't work too well (couldn't point the antenna the right direction)... So, since you are going south/north, you may want to see the way your cabin faces and if you can get the antenna to point properly in your cabin, or you could probably use it on the deck no problem... C&F Posted April 17, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 17, 2006 What Sirius product did you take? The boombox? If so, did you mount the antenna outside, or just keep the whole boombox outside? I was wondering about this.
tbone81 Posted April 17, 2006 #5 Share Posted April 17, 2006 I took my boombox with me...stuck the antenna outside as far out as I could to get the most view...used the boombox inside and out...the antenna has a really long cable...
C&F Posted April 17, 2006 #6 Share Posted April 17, 2006 What about at ports of call? Did you take it off with you? If so, how was the reception?
etoile Posted April 18, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 18, 2006 This gets asked a lot, actually. I did some research for an earlier thread and discovered that Sirius is the service of choice in the Caribbean. XM has some coverage but not as much, so you won't get as good results. Feel free to bring your XM radio but bear in mind that Sirius has better Caribbean coverage.
tbone81 Posted April 18, 2006 #8 Share Posted April 18, 2006 Didn't take it off the boat in the ports of call, it was mainly for getting ready to go out/sitting on the balcony relaxing... I imagine it would be fine, if you go to the Sirius message boards there is always people posting about using it in the caribbean... BTW, IMHO...Sirius should be the service of choice everywhere you go ;-)
