About Infinity

Hi, Sweetmdm - First, congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Infinity is one of our favorite ships; we're on her again in a month. You will get lots of useful information from the reviews Nancy pointed you to. Also, keep in mind that the Infinity is nearly identical in terms of layout and facilities to Millennium, Constellation and Summit, so most things you read about those ships apply to Infinity as well.

Two suggestions: first, get a balcony! Of course it depends on your budget for the trip, but for a cruise to Alaska, it's worth the difference in cost. You'll almost always be in sight of land, and the views are awesome. When you're visiting the glacier, you'll have the option to stay on your own verandah rather than braving the crowds on the top deck - although you should still go up top to see more.

The other suggestion is to plan to dine at least one night in the Specialty Restaurant. On Infinity it's named the SS United States, and has a 50's modern feel with some of the original glass panels from the United States. But like the Specialty Restaurants on all of that class of ship, the dining experience is a wonderful, formal European-style dinner. Well worth the extra charge, and a memorable evening.

Hi,

First, congratulations on the upcoming nuptials and honeymoon. Alaska and Infinity are great choices!

I'll second everything the others have said, especially brucemcdou. The one thing I'll add are a couple comments regarding the specialty restaurant:

1.) Make your reservation ASAP. Past Celebrity guests can reserve prior to sailing. Otherwise, go to the specialty restaurant on deck 3 very soon after boarding and make your reservation then. You'll have the best selection of dates & times.

2.) Caesar Salad warning: GREAT salad, marvelously prepared tableside. But the serving portion is mountainous! Eat sparingly. ;)

Above all, have a delightful cruise and a joyous beginning to your life together.

CM

Thanks for all the wonderful advice and the good wishes! Unfortunately, don't think our budget will allow for a verandah, so how do you know how to get a good ocean view room, with no obstructions, and away from areas that would be loud? One of us cruised once, years ago and don't remember anything so we need all the tips we can get!

The cabins on a deck that is between two other passenger decks would be quietest. Otherwise, avoid being over or under disco, show lounges, etc., or anywhere they would be moving furniture over your cabin, but the latter would probably be balconies. Nancy

We were on the Infinity this past Feb - great ship! I agree - don't miss the speciality restaurant. We have also been on the Millie (same ship) in an oceanview room on the Plaza Deck (just behind guest relations) midship and never had any problem hearing traffric above us. Enjoy the cruise!

Hi, Sweetmdm - Unlike other cruise lines, Celebrity doesn't have any truly obstructed-view cabins, so you don't need to worry about that. I agree with VickyKay that the ocean view cabins on Plaza deck are nice since you can walk down the hall to the main lobby and then go one flight up the stairs to the dining room, theater, Cova Cafe, etc. We had one of those on the Millennium and it was very convenient.

One "secret" on Infinity and the other ships in her class are the oversized ocean-view cabins are the very front of decks 7, 8, and 9. You can see them on the deck plans. They're no more expensive than other cabins of the same class, but you get more room. These aren't "handicapped" cabins so you don't need to be concerned about bumping others who need the cabin. On deck 7 there's one on each side at the very front that have a large curved wall - the only window faces forward over the bow. On decks 8 and 9 the windows in those cabins face to the side the normal way. We were in cabin 9000 for our last cruise on Infinity, and it's got about 50 more square feet than others. Since you're going to Alaska, if you can get one of the ones on deck 9 you only have to run up one flight of stairs to be outside which is handy when you're glacier watching and need to run back to your cabin to warm up. Being at the very front of the ship does mean that you'll be doing a lot of walking, but you can get more room for that!

Enjoy your cruise!
