question about cabin guarantee

We have a cabin being held on the Star Princess for Aug. 3, 2006 cruise to the Baltic. We have a BC guarantee cabin. When I look at the Princess we site it looks as though there are almost no cabin remaining. Does Princess "hold" cabins. How does this all work?

When you've booked a guaranteed category, you are guaranteed at least that cabin category or better. Often, when it comes time for final payment, some people drop out so that even though you may see no cabins available, it's likely that there will be some. Also, some travel agents reserve blocks of cabins and as it gets close to final payment, they release their unsold cabins. Should no one drop out or cabins released, just like an overbooked flight, Princess will call people with confirmed cabins and make then an offer to go on a different cruise, opening up available cabins. They keep on sweetening the deals until they have enough cabins for all of the guarantees.

You don't have to worry -- you'll get a cabin in the category you booked or one in a better category.
