Celebrity Credit Card Questions

I, myself, have a Marriot Visa CC and a Hilton Honors AE CC already. I'm almost up to something free with Marriot and then I'm going to get rid of it because it has a fee and I'm going to go with a cruise credit card.

(Also, if you're into hotel CC, I discovered that the Starwoods CC has a pretty good points/$ spent ratio and no points, but you have to have amazing credit to get it.)

I'm going on a Celebrity Cruise in 2007 and want to plan to go to Galapagos. Since Celebrity looks the best there too, I want to get a Celebrity Card.

But, I can't find a lot of information on the rewards. Does anyone know if they expire? How much you can earn in a year? The difference between the Visa vs. AE Cards?

Since I'm just about to book the Celebrity Cruise in 2007, I'd like to get the card for the deposit, so any feedback or help, I would greatly appreciate.

Thank you!

I think that this is one of the better rewards cards available. Besides using it for X cruises you can also use the points towards airline flights, hotels and restaurants. The Celebrity Rewards AX card is through MBNA. There is no annual fee. I have had mine since last year and I have been getting double points on all travel charges and triple points on all Celebrity charges. I was first advised that the double points would only be through 12/05, but then last December they announced that it was continued through 12/06. This is the only rewards program I have seen where you can look online at the points you get for each charge to your card. I am not sure about expiring points I do not think that they expire, but I do not worry about that as long as I keep earning points. The Celebrity home page has a link to get information and too sign up for a card. Look under specials and then select Rewards.

By the way I am leaving tomorrow for the Galapagos trip on X. From all the reviews I have seen it should be an outstanding trip!

WOW! You're leaving tomorrow?? Well, HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!! I'm VERY jealous!!!

I guess I want to know how many points you have to get in order to get an on board credit or a free trip for both the AE card & the Visa Card...... Do you know??

I'm just worried about the points expiring!

For the Celebrity AMEX card, The reward points expire in five years. From the MBNA website:

Q:

Is there a limit to the number of WorldPoints® I can earn?

A: No. You can continue to earn WorldPoints® throughout the year, and carry them forward from one year to the next. WorldPoints® expire five years from the end of the month in which they were earned.

You get a $50 on board credit for every 5000 points you earn. THere are many other rewards also and you can even get cash if you don't want anything else. The cash doesn't equal the on-board credit until you get to 25,000 points, but you can get cash for as little as 2500 points so I can't see how you would ever have your points expire.

Thanks, I looked at the website. I discovered:

Since the MBNA Visa card will give you $50 for every 5000 points earned and you earn 1 point for every dollar. So, spend $5,000 and get a $50 on board credit.

For the MBNA American Express card, I see that you get 1 point for purchase and double points for travel and dining until 2006. Also, complimentary enrollment in MBNA WorldPoints. Can anyone tell me how many points equals what kind of on board credit? Is it the same?

I'm still confused in the differences of the cards.

Tapia--also, you get double points for any charges you make with Celebrity on the MBNA VISA card. Pay for the cruise, use it for your on-board charges, buy sail-away gifts, excursions, etc. and get twice as many points.

Thank you so much for posting www.webflyer.com

But, if I'm not mistaken, I don't see the celebrity card anywhere!

Am I just not seeing it????

So, is there any reason AT ALL to get the American Express card over the Visa Card??

I still can't figure out what the American Express card gives you per dollar spent........

Help anyone?

I have the MBNA AMEX Card, the on board credit reward is the same $50 for every 5000 points. You get double points for travel and triple for celebrity purchases right now. The points really add up when you charge your cruise on the card.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just used my Celebrity Rewards (Captain's Club) American Express points for the first time today. I was able to book RT air, on my airline of choice (American), using 25,000 points. Seemed better to use it for a $515 RT ticket, compared to the $250 ship board credit. I did everything online starting with my account (MBNA) -- very easy process.

Enjoy!

Just wondering from those of you who have the MBNA Visa if they are constantly calling you with special offers and promotions? We have chosen not to get this card because of prior history with MBNA (years ago). They called us constantly, despite our requests not to call, offering us this promotion and that. We finally cancelled the card we had with them. If you do choose this card, I would not give them your telephone number (which I think they require). They were a real nuisance.

I have had this card (MBNA Visa) for over a year and have never had a phone call from them! I intend to cash in for onboard credits for my cruise on Zenith in October, 2006.

I've only had the card a week, so I can't really say. But, no phone calls yet :-)

I did a price comparison of the free-bees and charging any cruise on the card works out great for me in points which I can use on my Celebrity Alaska Cruise :-)

The Celebrity Amex card is like a blue Amex card - revolving charge - not the normal Amex that must be totally paid off every month. The advantages of the Celebrity Amex card over the Celebrity Visa is the double points for all travel and dining charges for this year - not just double for Celebrity charges like the Visa. Helps you rack up points quicker!

I have not received any calls from MBNA plugging their services and I have had both cards for a year now.

I have both, the Celebrity AMEX and Visa card. I have received calls for "disability insurance" for the cards, "upgrading" the cards, etc. I have had my cards since 2004. Maybe I have been in the system longer.

I got mine in November while on the Galaxy. They gave me a bonus of 5000 points to join (I had to fight for that when I got back, but I did get it) and upon approval, which was the next morning, an immediate $25 cabin credit. I racked up the triple points by booking 2 more cruises at the same time. That was worth another 2700 points. By the time I made final payment for our March cruise, I was able to cash in $200 in cabin credit. Of course, after reading this thread I can see this may not have been the smartest move; airline tickets would have been a better deal. I have over a hundred sitting there now, growing with each meal out, that I plan to cash in for our October cruise. Hopefully, that will be another $200. I won't cash in more than that because we already have a $200 booking credit and a $200 shareholders credit for October. My husband will probably leave a bit of that in the casino. LOL

Oh, I chose the Amex.

One other point I need to mention; I did not open this as a joint account. I had my husband open his own on the Constellation last month so that we could get another $25 instant cabin credit. Now that we both have them, we will make them joint accounts.
