We went on the Miracle back in February with our 3 kids - 8, 6 and 3. They absolutely loved Camp Carnival. They grouped the kids by age (my 6 and 8 yo's were in the same group) and did age appropriate activities. They did face painting, dancing, storytime, made a volcano (older group), t-shirt painting, candy art, scratch art, jewelry making, video games, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, etc. When they weren't at camp, they were asking to go to camp, so that was a good sign!

camps are broken down to age groups

2-5

6-8

9-11

12-14

15-17

camps are usualy strict with ages.. if your children are 4- 6 and want them together the older kid can move down in the group but not up.

kids need to be 2 on the date of ssailing or they wont take them

here is an idea of what could be expected in the way of camp

We have used Camp Carnival for years with great success. We have sailed on 12 different Carnival ships and the Camp Carnival care has been excellent on all of them. I love the consistant professional (but still fun) manner in which they have always operated this portion of their cruiselines.

I have a PhD in being an "overprotective Mom" (especially with my youngest son having a form of autism) and they have always exceeded my expectations. Is everyone perfect all the time? No. But they have proven themselves with us with their track record.

The things they do vary. Age 8 and under must be signed in and out (by the same parent) They paint. They swim. They make sand pictures in little jars. They play video games.

9 -11 can sign themselves out (so if you want them to stay with the group until you come get them, you must have an "understanding" with your child.) 9 -11 will do things like Scavenger Hunts around the ship; which means some unsupervised time while in Camp Carnival, so make sure your child can handle that.

At the beginning of the cruise, you will have an orientation where you will sign them up for Camp Carnival and recieve a Caper for their age group for the entire week. That way, if they are 9 and older, you will always know where they are on the ship.

Does anyone know much about the kids club? What kind of things they do.

Camp Carnival is the best. I have and 12 11 and 6 when we went last. now the first place they want to go when we get on the ship is camp carnival. I can't say enough good things about it. Plus the get great seats for the shows at night if they go with the camp

Thank you sooo much for posting the activities. I have been searching for some information on the kids club. I couldn't find anything. That is very helpful. I showed it to my daughter and she got all excited about going.

Could someone please give me an idea of how things go on the first day. We have only cruised Disney and it was nice knowing what to expect ahead of time. With Disney you could register your kids on line and then when you were in the terminal you would go to a seperate line to get your pager and their wristbands. You didn't have to attend an orientation.

Thanks again!!!:)

There's no advance registration. You can tour the Camp Carnival facilities the first day, then attend an orientation after dinner (not required - you can register kids anytime at Camp Carnival). Only the 2-5 group gets pagers. The wristbands relate to muster stations; kids get the bands during muster drill, but if they come off Camp Carnival can get them replaced. My kids love Camp Carnival; last year on Conquest, the 9-11 group had two slumber parties, and 9 YO had a great time. We've gone through most of the age groups at this point (3 boys now ages 6, 10 and 14-soon to be 15), and our boys have enjoyed their experiences.

What is Muster Drill?

I' have two daughters one is 4 and one 9. I'm a little concerned about the 9 year old group not being supervised at certain times. She thinks it will be great. But I think I'll worry. I think I'll always worry about them though.:o

Thanks

It's the lifeboat drill before the ship sails. Everyone has an assigned station listed inside their cabin, and you take your life jackets and go to the station when directed by the crew. It's not the greatest cruise experience, but it doesn't last long and it's important to know what do do in an emergency.

As for the 9 YO - I think they're well supervised. We didn't let our son sign himself in and out; we met him at the activity location when camp ended for the morning or afternoon. He's always had a great time!

the 9 year olds are supervised== they can come and go as they please. Im sure that at 9 years old if you do not want your child to leave jsut let them know they are to stay there til you come and get them.

We went on Carnival in January and used Camp Carnival for our three (4, 8 and 11) my 8 yo was very disappointed not to be with his brother. The director allowed his to participate in a few of the activities where the kids were not allowed to check out on their own (like the all night party).

As for my 11 yo he would have been allowed to come and go on his own and the counselor said she could not guarantee he did not check himself out- that age only has one counselor (at least on our cruise). That being said there were usually under 10 children in his group and she did a good job of keeping up with them- my son knew not to leave the activity area until we returned (I think the counselors did wait with them if they knew your typically came to p/u you kid). At this age Carnival trusts your child will listen to your instructions about checking in/out.

This age group does have unsupervised activities (scavenger hunt on the boat). The kids are in groups of 4-5 and run around together. One evening while my DH and I were getting ready for dinner I heard this awful racket coming down the hall and it stopped at my door. The knocking kids were mine and they were playing some type of scavenger hunt bingo and needed my signature in a block. They said they had been through the casino and out on the decks to get people to sign off their sheet. Given this was toward the end of the cruise and the kids had been instructed on ship-stranger safety I felt fine with the activity.

If you are concerne about you 9 yo doing something like running the ship with a group then just ask the counselor about the nature of the activity prior to leaving them.

We were on the Pride 3 years ago and the kids got a small mesh beach bag that they still use today! Do they still give out Carnival "stuff" or do they just award prizes?

Last year's RCL was a dissapointment. No last nite gifts and they 12yo group was more boy/girl things my boys were not into. They only went to the club twice.

I showed them the 12-14yo Caper and they said "All Right! PS2 time every day!! :D (Their version of the "ultimate" vacation... video games 24/7) We will also have Game Boys in tow!

Happy Cruzin' all!

My kids have come home with gifts on both cruises - on Victory it was the mesh beach bag for the then-8 YO and a beanie dolphin for the then-4 YO. Last year was a CD case and a cup. Both also colored tee shirts during the week, and they still wear them.
