zeke11 Posted May 4, 2006 #151 Share Posted May 4, 2006 Seriously, is it that bad on Carnival?? I've sailed on both Disney and NCL and really didn't have a huge problem finding poolside chairs. I'm thinking of bringing my own little beach chair with, but hmmm....how to check it on the plane? Not kidding either. Kris
Cinderose Posted May 4, 2006 #152 Share Posted May 4, 2006 On our last cruise we found four chairs stuffed with items. We took the chairs right next to them but when they hadnt returned for almost an hour my friend got an idea and we took their camera that was on one of the chairs and started taking photos for their enjoyment since oviously they were nowhere around to be doing. Pictures of the sky, my toenails, a margarita glass, some guys butt, their empty chairs, and then I got a Great idea. I took out my notepad from my bag and wrote some notes for them to see when they got their film developed ..... CHAIR HOG, Abandoned items - FREE Help yourself, Your lucky Im not a theif, and some other choice words I can not mention. We did not use all their film as we wanted them to think all was ok until they paid for and picked up their photos from the developers. I just wish I could see their faces when they got those photos back!!! If it was you and you read this, sue me!

gometros Posted May 4, 2006 #154 Share Posted May 4, 2006 For fear of opening a can of worms, I've been reading threads on saving chairs and how obsessed people are about this topin and wondered how people tell the difference between someone who gets up in morning and throws some towels on a chair to save versus someone who is in the pool? I don't want to worry about going into the pool for 15 - 20 minutes and coming back and finding someone in my chair.

Rena921 Posted May 4, 2006 #157 Share Posted May 4, 2006 This thread is soooooo funny, the best laugh i've had all day! I have an idea for us cruise critic members....We all print this off and put it on our chairs when we will be away from them for more than 5 minutes. SHHHH, it'll be our secret;) Attention: I am a Cruise Critic member NOT an inconsiderate chair hog. I am taking a quick dip/soak in the hot tub/ drink and or potty run. I promise I will be back to claim my seat in the Allotted time frame. Thank you and have a pleasant afternoon.
AppleValleyCruisers Posted May 4, 2006 #158 Share Posted May 4, 2006 Thanks for the great tip. I'm looking forward to checking out the availability of free stuff on my upcoming cruise on the Miracle. I may not even pack lotion and sun glasses so I can bring more shoes. To be honest with you Iowa, that didn't seem to be too big of a problem on the Miracle. (Heck, I almost wished it had been though. I would have loved to seen the look on someones face when they saw how much a paperback grows in weight and size when a "rogue wave" just happens to hit the exact chair their book was on;) )

sthrnbelle Posted May 4, 2006 #165 Share Posted May 4, 2006 Priceless! And how it the world can it be called stealing if it's just left there for everyone to take. Surely no one would just leave all that stuff there while they went to eat, sleep, swim, take a tour, play at the casino, etc. The following are things for those who want to leave stuff for everyone to use: Good strong suntan lotion, good sunglasses, couple of extra towels, a good mystery novel (maybe two), S&S card, bucket of cold beer, size 11 sandels, two rolls of quarters, reservations at the Point for two, paid tours at all ports and some cash for souviners. I can handle the rest. Just leave the stuff on a chair by the pool. Thanks so much!!:p:p And exactly where are they supposed to leave their things while they swim if not by the pool?? I understand if towels have been left for hours, but if I'm tanning, get hot and decide to take a dip, come back and someone is on my towel or in my chair its going to get ugly real quick. gometros Posted May 5, 2006 #167 Share Posted May 5, 2006 Umm, I think you're missing the point of the OP:rolleyes: I think the point was made, but that still begs the question: How long is too long to leave a chair with stuff on it before someone decides it's "free stuff"? There is a quantity of time between a quick dip and an absent chair holder that I'm sure may cruisers fall into. If I go into the pool and get engrossed in a conversation with a shipmate, is someone going to think the book, flip flops and towel on my chair is "free stuff"? I agree with the previous poster - there is a fine line between abuse of chair saving and legitimate saving of chairs. I would never set stuff on a chair in the morning and disappear for hours. Because of that, if I did run into someone that moved my stuff after a dip in the pool, things would get ugly. I get the feeling that some people get over zealous about this chair saving stuff. I can only speak for myself. If I see you get up and go to the pool or hot tub I still consider you there. Doesn't matter how long. On average very few people stay IN the pool or hot tub as long as you state. 30 minutes is probably a long time. If someone came to me and asked if a chair was taken and I didn't see the person and I knew it had not been used for 30-45 minutes I'd tell the person that I think it's not used. Then that person can do want they want. Move the item or whatever. Exception: If the person who came up and asked me about the chair was a single, good-looking gal in a bikini, holding two beers, Your stuff would be gone in one second.:)

That's all I was trying to get at. Not having cruised recently on anything but DCL, I wasn't sure how obsessive people get about chairs. I figure of someone is gone more than an hour, they either fell overboard or went to back to their room with that gal with the beers :p
LittleBit Posted May 5, 2006 #173 Share Posted May 5, 2006 Ain't Carma great...? !!! :D CARMA- Chicago Area Radio Monitoring Association CARMA- Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy CARMA -Council of Advocates for Relief from Malware Assimilation Karma (Sanskrit: कर्म from the root kṛ, "to do", meaning deed) meaning action, effect, destiny) is a term that comprises the entire cycle of cause and effect. Karma is a sum of all that an individual has done, is currently doing and will do. The effects of all deeds actively create present and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life, and the pain in others. Karma extends through one's present life and all past and future lives as well. The "Law of Karma" is central in Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, & Jainism. All living creatures are responsible for their karma - way of life - and for their release from samsara. The process view of release - moksha - from ego-consciousness - ahamkar - through individual responsibility for the totality of action with it's inherent karma, can be contrasted with the soteriological view of mainstream denominations of Christianity; grace given by faith in the suffering, death and ressurection of a singular saviour.
