Transportation from Rome airport

Please recommend reputable shuttle/limo service from Rome airport to Civitavecchia to board the Insignia. We were just informed today that Oceania will not provide transportation to the port on 5/11/06, even though we were charged for it when our final payment was due. Thanks.

Did I understand you to say that you paid for transfers through Oceania and now you are not getting them? Can you explain how/why this is happening? What are you being told as a reason? Did you request a change to your travel schedule? What does your TA say about this?

Our T.A. checked with Oceania; they said that since we did not book pre-cruise hotel with them, they would not permit us to use their transportation, even though we'd been charged in our final payment. fyi---we even paid extra for air deviation but that does not seem to count.

Because you are not using the pre package hotel..you should NOT have been charged for transfers..I am assuming they are refunding the money to you!

It's early in the a.m. and I'm probably still in a fog, but explain to me one more time exactly what is happening. Kaplan - you say you are looking for transportation from Rome airport to the Insignia. This leads me to believe that you are simply flying to Rome and going straight to the port, and that you are not staying at ANY pre-cruise hotel, neither Oceania's or one you chose yourself. Is this correct?

 

I thought the only time you could not use Oceania's transfers were if you booked your own hotel pre or post-cruise and it is understood then that you will find your own way from your hotel to the port or airport.

 

Jan - are there other scenarios that I'm missing? The reason why I am looking at this so closely is that our fly in fly out is Venice-Rome, and both are places we've been on land tours, so we may not want extra days on either end. We haven't decided that yet, but we did pay for transfers.

I read it that they prebooked a hotel BUT not with Oceania since they did an air deviaition..truthfully after rereading..I too am not sure what he is saying..as Pa Nana asks..can you clarify..are you flying in early and staying at a hotel or with friends?

Kaplan, while it is confusing as to what is actually happening for you, some transfer companies are: www.idealimousines.com, utenti.lycos.it/romecabs, romashuttle.com, www.limoinrome.com. We found the prices through most of these companies to be lower for 2 of us than the transfer was anyway. If you can get another couple to transfer with you, the price per person drops even more. I hope it all gets straightened out for you.

Thanks for the limo company names; very helpful........We are flying into Rome a day earlier; we booked our own hotel, Rome Hilton. Oceania had charged us for the transfer to the port and it wasn't until this week when or documents came that we found out that we could not have the Oceania transfer. Even our travel agent was surprised that we'd been billed for it in Feb. '06. They are issuing a credit now.

first get a credit..they can't charge you for a service ( TRANSFER ) and not provide it..

Are you staying at the Rome Hilton at the airport or in the city? We are on the same cruise and already have private transportation to the dock from the city. We are staying at the Hotel Dei Mellini and if your hotel is close by, may be able to share the transportation. I would have to find out by our driver. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yes, we are staying at the Hilton Airport in Rome, not in the city. I am assuming that your hotel is in the city, correct? If you think we could share transportation, let me know.Thanks

Yes, our hotel is in the city. It's located between the Vatican and the Spanish Steps. I don't think it will work in regards to sharing transportation.
