Noumea-Le Petit Train

So far, I have only seen people booking this tour through the ship for $44 per person. I did a bit of Googling and found out that the actual Petit Train ticket costs 1100 XPF which is about $16 Aussie. So is there anything that makes it necessary to book it through the ship? Like is it so far from the ship you would need a taxi to get there otherwise? Is it chartered to P&O so no one else can use it?

Has anyone else ever done this in their own? Just seems to be a steep mark-up.

We did the booked one and we were glad we did as we spoke to people that had just done the other one, no commentary and no champers and pattieries at the top. It is well worth the commentary. It left from the wharf area and there are English speaking guides to show you where to go. Just ask and someone will point you in the right direction.
