Drive from Anchorage to Seward

Hi

We finally made a decision and have rented a mini-van to drive to Seward from Anchorage. Anyone have any suggestions for "must stop and see" sights along the way?

Also, what about when we are in Anchorage?

Thanks for any help.

Joan

It is a very scenic drive so allow plenty of time. Hope is an interesting side trip, so is a stop at the Portage Glacier Visitor center. Then add in all the pull offs along the Arm. :) Anchorage is loaded with activities, request their visitor guide http://www.anchorage.net but since you have a car another top scenic drive is Hatcher Pass, if interested in some cheap glacier trekking 2 hours from Anchorage http://www.micaguides.com

Big Game Alaska just north of the Portage Glacier turnoff gives you a close-up look at many animals (moose, caribou, elk, bears, musk ox...). The 1-hour MV Ptarmigan glacier cruise at the Portage Glacier is among the best dollar values in Alaska.

Depending on the time of day during your drive, if you're in the Girdwood area in the afternoon/evening, there's a great restaurant at the top of the ski resort. If you're in Anchorage for dinner, I recommend the Glacier Brewhouse. Also, in Seward, there's Exit Glacier, Kenai Fjord cruise, and the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward. Lots of great options from Seward and Anchorage. Best of all, the scenery! Have fun!

Get a copy of the Milepost book. Anchorage Walmarts sell for $18.88 Great place to souvenir shop too.

Alaska Wildberry factory in Anch is fun and very touristy with Sourdough Mining restaurant across the street.

Alaska Fur Exchange is great for real native made products.

Beluga Point, mile 110.4 needs mentioning as a place to spot whales and Dall sheep.

Good Morning

Thank you Budget Queen, Yukon, Swdke and Glacier Lady! Will definitely take your good advice and use it.

I think it is great that people like you take your time to help people like me who have not been to Alaska before. I know it is time consuming so again - a BIG THANK YOU. Have enjoyed all of your comments along the way.
