We are sailing on 5/7..can't wait!! I have a couple of questions. Does anyone know how much it costs to get a cd or dvd with the pictures from your camera on board?

 

Also, is there a beach within walking distance when you go to Nassua, Bahamas? Can you go snorkeling or do you have to do an excursion to get to a beach? Is it safe for two women to go alone?

We just bought a "memory card" for our camera before we sailed. Downloaded to our computer when we returned home.

 

Never saw a walk-to beach in Nassau.

Not sure what your time span is?? on your itinerary.

 

We always take a cab to Atlantis.

Depends ont he ship/line, but the CD option is about $10 give or take a few dollars.

We were thinking about taking a cab to Atlantis. Is there anything to do once you get there, like laying out on the beach and can you get into Atlantis without staying there?

We were on a Celebrity cruise last year to Nassau. When you get off the ship (at least at the dock we were on), you can go into the 'terminal' and purchase a ticket for the water taxi for about $6 per person, then you have to walk about a large city block to get to their pier. When we got there, I wasn't comfortable getting on the boat. It was very small & in my opinion, it was full already. All the seats were taken & people were standing. The boat itself was a little run-down looking but was probably ok. In my mind, it was just the luck of the draw for us ... the water taxi that we would have been on was a wooden hulled boat badly in need of paint & loving care. Other taxis were lined up which were probably 20 yrs newer but they wouldn't let us pick another taxi. One taxi had to be completely full before the next one started loading. If we didn't get on the wooden one which was loading, we had to leave the pier. So be it...we left.

 

We walked back to the terminal & of course, the tickets were non-refundable so we sold them for $5 each to another tourist. He was happy, it was cheaper & he didn't have to get in the long line-up.

 

We went out through the front doors & there is a taxi stand right there & for less than $10 total, you can get a taxi to the front doors of the Atlantis. At this time, I can't remember if there was a small toll fee to travel over the bridge but if there is, it's only a dollar. It's a lovely building with lots of stuff to look at. The aquarium tickets were about $29.95 per person I think. Lots of stores, all very high-end, catering to affluent guests and vacationers. The casino is large, the slots were ok. We didn't get a big pay-out, just pretty much broke even.

 

The taxi driver told us on the way over to Atlantis, that the water taxis dock very close to the beach so if you take the water taxi, just get out on the beach. Otherwise you have to walk a fair piece to the Atlantis building itself.

 

Be sure to take credible ID with you ... As we were leaving the terminal to go back to the ship, lots of military there looking at purchases, checking ID's and asking questions. Once you get past the security, there have small shuttle vehicles to transport you to your ship but you do have to look around for them. We didn't know that & walked back to our ship which was the second last ship at the end of the pier. Let me tell you, gout and walking that distance does not mix.

You can take a land taxi or water taxi. The free beach access is almiost hidden and can be hard to find because of construction.

 

(Atlantis is creating a mega- resort and takes most of the access frontage.)

 

It's about a 1/2 to 3/4 mile walk from the water taxi to the beach.

 

There are signs - worn and some missing - but there.

 

You can rent a chair and vendors come along.

 

There were several booths that offered services- rent a jet ski , snorkeling and such.

 

Access thru Atlantic is expensive and no better than the free beach.

 

You could always rent a skooter at the terminal - ( $ 45 ) and go to the other end on the island. Very private and free.

I would go over to ports of call and look up bahamas/ We found quite a bit of information there last year before we sailed to Nassau. Also, if you enjoy walking it is a fun walk over to Paradise Island. We walked over and then took a water taxi back. There are public beaches that you can get to by taxi or public bus.

unless you are in great shape. I went there when I was 29. We walked over that bridge from the hotel we were staying at. Oh my was that a long walk. We were very young with 2 children and had to budget our money so to come back on a taxi was out of the question. I remember that my DH pulled me along while my DS pushed just to get me over. I weighed 120 lbs and was 5'6" so I was not on the heavy side. I would give up a meal now to take that taxi.:D Of course I am now 55 and it has been awhile since I was 120lbs. I was talking to my exhusband and told him we were going on this cruise and he told my husband to make sure he ate a good breakfast and not to let me talk him into going over that bridge. I told him we are not going to Nassau and he said you never know they may have a bridge.:D
