things to do after shows with a 6yr old

While there are some clubs that are off-limits to kids, other areas are more welcoming. Our son has been on many cruises with us, and he likes to hang out with us rather than go to the kids club. We have never had a problem bringing him into some of the bars, such as a piano bar, where there was musical entertainment. He's always loved music, and would sip on cranberry juice or apple juice while listening. Of course, like you, he would never be there without us.

It also depends on what you mean by "after hours." If it is just right after the shows, as indicated in the title of the post, there should be little or no problem. If it is much later in the evening, I agree that a 6-year-old is too young. In that case, if there are two adults, I suggest switching off some evenings so that one is with your child in the cabin or buffet area and the other is in the club. It's an adjustment, but works. And, casinos are off-limits all the time.

Our 3 kids have all been cruising since they were three.

The younger they are, the easier they are to satisfy. Simple things go a long way.

Some of our best memories are of long walks around Olympic deck on the Norway after picking the kids up from the kids activities. To this day we take a walk each evening as a family around the promenade deck of whatever ship we are on.

Actually, at that age, they were just happy to go anywhere and to do anything with Mom & Dad. Hang out on pool deck, watch the fun at a deck party, play basketball in the dark, listen to the band in a lounge, dance in the disco. I sat in the atrium bar one night watching my kids have the time of their lives riding the glass elevators up and down.

we saw people on the NCL star bringing lil ones in the nightclub.. but IMO i wouldnt ,, it was soooo smoky in there.... it looked out of place..

I would definetley do the babysitting thing if you want to enjoy the nightlife... Just my opinion.......:)

Some ships have karaoke nights at which kids are welcome, so that's a possibility. Unfortunately, it's often in a smoky room.

I wish there were more things for ADULTS to do after the late show. If you don't drink or gamble, there's not much going on. We love to listen to music and dance, but not every night. Wish NCL had late-night movies!

Unless there are special activities for the under age kids it is best to either take them to child care or call it a night. Most of the time the little ones really get bored with the adult activities. Sometimes they enjoy just going on deck with mom and dad or using the pool. But the bars and nightclubs are really for the legal age kids.

The Spirit has late night movies. 10pm, 12:30am, 3am and 5am.

I've been on the Sky and Star too but don't remember what times their movies were. I happen to have my Spirit dailies in hand tonight, so got this info right from the daily.

I will answer your question and I won't tell you what to do or not to do. That is your choice as a parent. I am pretty sure that the rule is: under 18 yr old allowed in the lounge/bars until 11pm. After, it becomes out of bound for them. I think young child will be tired by that time but as I said, you are the parent and you know when your kid needs to sleep.

Thanks, Hikini! I'm going to have to try the Spirit! We had no such luck on the other ships we've been on, including the Jewel. The only movies available were on cabin TVs and mid-afternoon on port days.
