Camera Question...

Is anyone familiar with the Canon PowerShot S3 IS? :confused: I am looking for a digital camera to be used for zooming in to take pics on an Alaskan cruise.

That must be a new model. A friend has the older S1 IS and it is an excellent camera. Steve rates the S2 IS quite highly.

I have the S1-IS and love it. Check online reviews by searching for Canon S3-IS reviews. Just make sure it has or does what you want. I'm normally a Nikon girl, but the Nikon I looked at didn't have good reviews on the macro. Macro is important to me so I began looking elsewhere.

Based on dpreview.com is looks like a new camera. Very nice. The review of the S2 was VERY positive. And that zoom looks like it's really long. Be sure to turn on the image stabilizer when you use (or a tripod). This comparison shows the S2 and S3 side by side. Looks like the S3 is definitely an upgrade. Good choice!

I have used the S2 and was very please with the results and made great enlargements. The 12x zoom is great.

 

The S3 is the smae thing, but in 6 megapixels so should given even sharper results.
