Lovincruisin1321 Posted May 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2006 Hi Everyone! Your pics are fantastic! Can someone tell me how can create my own website to post pictures and journal our cruises? Are there companies out there that help out dummies like me? Better yet, are there free ones???:D Thanks so much for your help in advance! :)
mountainhouse Posted May 12, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2006 Most popular, by far, is Webshots. It's free. My Firefox browser (siteadvisor) warns me that they do download some junk into your PC, and send you lots of e-mail. For me, nothing's free. I'm thinking of changing to smugmug. Here, compare these two.... Here's a free Webshots site: http://community.webshots.com/user/aggieastrosfan Here's a $40 per year smugmug site: http://joc.smugmug.com/gallery/20189 Play around with the style options at the top. It's pretty cool. Also, check out the fine print. Webshots limits free accounts to 240 photos (5,000 photos is $30 per year). Smugmug has not storage limits. As usual, you get what you pay for. Whatever you choose, make sure it's easy for you to use. By the way, do check if your ISP offers anything.
Tater1800 Posted May 12, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2006 Most internet accounts come with free storage space for such things. I simply upload the pics and then provide links. You can also use web authoring software like Front Page or even MS Word. I haven't worked on my page in a while. It was done with Word. http://home.alltel.net/hyatts1/index.htm
prettypixie Posted July 7, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 7, 2006 there's also http://www.shutterfly.com, http://photos.yahoo.com, and http://www.snapfish.com to name a few. If you make an actual website there's free web hosting places like say geocities, angelfire, and tripod that will let you upload your pics then you can put them on a website but it usually takes some minimal knowledge of HTML which is not too difficult to learn. :)
cswnow Posted July 12, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2006 Used to be free, but $30 yr now. Well worth it. Excellent organization.
ColdFusion Posted July 12, 2006 #6 Share Posted July 12, 2006 As Tater1800 said, use your own ISP webspace (if you have enough), but unlike Tater1800 said, never use MS Word or frontpage as they are really really bad at creating clean webpages. Instead have a look at http://jalbum.net its a free tool for creating albums for websites. Have a look at mine (link in sig), that was done with JAlbum. Its quick and very easy to use. CF.
