FEMH Posted May 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2006 We are considering a northbound Alaskan cruise in early September. We have been twice, both in late July, and have had beautiful weather. Will we be disappointed by going in September-weather wise, etc.? Thanks in advance.
Budget Queen Posted May 14, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2006 Are you also doing interior touring??? Interior Alaska is wonderful early Sept. plus some reductions in prices on lodging. Also the chance of northern lights and fall colors. On the inside passage, you can expect cooler temps and possible more rain.
FEMH Posted May 14, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted May 14, 2006 Thanks for your quick reply, Budget Queen. We will not be doing interior touring this time, just the cruise. I think we'll bring a slightly heavier jacket and a rain poncho and it sounds like it will be fine.

If there are any particular excursions you're interested in, check into booking them early. A few operators in SouthEast begin to close up for the season at that time of year. Some years there isn't enough snow on the glaciers for the dogsled tours, etc... -Case
LuAnn Posted May 14, 2006 #5 Share Posted May 14, 2006 We had great weather..only rained one day in Juneau...rest of the time...beautiful...plus if you are a shopper (I'm not..but) all the shops had great sales because it was the end of the season! Enjoy! LuAnn
gg3 Posted May 15, 2006 #6 Share Posted May 15, 2006 We also cruised Alaska in early September and found it wonderful and no more rain than when we went in July and temps about the same. We saw a much greater number of whales (w/C. Larry) in Sept. than in July with the Princess whale excursion (may have had nothing to do with the month). Also a fabulous display of salmon running in Christmas Creek on Creek Street in Ketchikan in September. We would choose Sept. again, for sure. Have a great Alaskan adventure - whenever you go - it will be spectacular. There is no "bad" time to see the Great Northwest !!!!!!!!! gg
