AOS boarding question

are you allowed to leave the ship after you check in. I'd like to check in. Eat lunch on board and then get off to explore San Juan. Not sure if this is allowed or not.

We know of passengers on the Serenade in February that did just that. They were able to check in and leave to tour. Just make sure you are back in time for sailaway :D

We just got back from AOS (May 7 sailing) and saw many people doing just as you described. However, many of them did not go to explore San Juan. Many just got off the ship to go to the duty free shop at the pier and we saw them getting back on board with cases of soft drinks and water and ????

We were on the AOS last March, we boarded about 11:30 am. Ate and then went to the duty free store got some flavored vodka and reboarded with no problems. There were taxi's there if we would have wanted to go into town it would have not been a problem. We loved the AOS....have a great cruise!

From what I've been reading on these boards, it sounds like the duty free store is after you pass through security. So are you allowed to buy alcohol/drinks and then bring them on board to enjoy during the trip? Or will they stow it away until you disembark? Does this go for alcohol only, or is soda also taken away?

So is it easy to get right back on if you go out to the liquor shop?? Lines?? More waiting?

Last summer we boarded AOS and then caught a cab back to Old San Juan to walk around. When we got back to the ship, we just showed people our boarding cards and they let us back in with no wait or hassle.
