Disneycruiser#1 Posted June 27, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2004 We have never cruised Princess or Holland America and are considering going on a different cruiseline. We have cruised on CCL, RCI and DCL. This is a last minute cruise for just my husband and myself before he deploys back to Iraq. Can anyone give me a lesson in Princess and how it would compare to the following. I understand all cruiselines are family friendly but I do not no much about these ships at all. Remember this time we are cruising without our boys. I will be taking them on the DCL Magic again this fall while my husband is gone to keep them occupied and we are going for a week to a AI in Playa at the end of July. We want good service, laid back, some shows or casino's, nice cabin with balcony, not into parties. All eastern ports PO Caribbean Princess BG or BD balcony's CCL Glory looks like balcony choice is a 8B or 9a deluxe balcony RCI Mariner of the Seas E2 Deluxe balcony or D1 Superior balcony HA Zuiderdam AE Mini Suite Need help asap. Does anyone have any opinions on how these ships rank against each other and the category of balcony cabin to book? Thanks!
verwirrt Posted June 27, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2004 Hi Disney, You will get very attentive service on Princess. I think the 24/7 pools and hot tubs make a differece to me. The PC dining is also a plus. We like to be spontanious when we are sans kids. Liked eating when and where we wanted. If your hubby is going back to Iraq, let him choose when and where to eat. And God bless him and you! Sharon
gatour Posted June 27, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 27, 2004 Between HAL and Princess, I would recommend Princess based on what you have told us. I have also been on CCL, RCCL, DCL and recently HAL. I wouldn't hesitate on taking another HAL cruise because it fits my wants/needs but it attracts a different crowd than CCL or RCCL. Of the other cruiselines you mentioned they are all fairly similiar, so I don't think you can really go wrong which ever you choose.
jerseygirl3 Posted June 27, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 27, 2004 I think the Caribbean Princess Eastern itinerary would fit your needs perfectly. However, I would recommend a Cat. BB (assuming you are not interested in a mini-suite). The Cat. BB balcony cabins have the largest balconies on the ship (9 x 9.5) and are half covered and half exposed. And please thank your husband for putting his life on the line for America.
Disneycruiser#1 Posted June 28, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted June 28, 2004 Thanks everyone. Since it is just my dh and I cruising this time before he deploys to Iraq we are looking for new ship, good ship and quality of food and nice balcony cabin. I only saw a cat BG or BD online so I will have to look into a cat BB......maybe they are sold out! We have cruised on DCL 3 years in a row and I am taking the boys on the Magic in October while my dh is deployed to get our minds off of the war for a week :(.........not sure which one to go with but thanks! We just took the boys on a 4 day Carnival cruise a month ago and they have cruised DCL 3 years in a row with a 4th one coming up and we are taking them to a AI resort in Playa for a week at the end of July. Heck they are only 3 and 6 so we are trying to stay busy and live life! This one I am trying to plan needs to be special since it is the only alone time before he deploys out............he will gone a long time :(

mary4165 Posted June 28, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 28, 2004 I agree I think you should go on Princess. You'll get great service good food, great show productions and lots to do including movies under the stars (Caribbean Princess only for the time being). I would mention to the Cruise Director that your husband is fighting for us in Iraq, you might get a little extra attention. Well deserved I might add. Jeepers385 Posted June 28, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 28, 2004 Have to agree that you can't go wrong w/Princess. I like the 24 hr hot tubs and fresh water pools and the PC dining. Whatever you decide have a great time and God Bless your husband & others fighting today. Debbie
BIGDADDYRICH Posted June 29, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 29, 2004 While These Other Ships Will Be Nice, The Fact That You Are Traveling Disney More Often Tells Me That You May Be A "little" Disapointed With Everyone Else. Not Because They Are Bad. But I Know How High Disney Standards Are. Room Cabin Comparisons Do Not Equate. The Size And The Amneties Are Different Inside-for-inside, Oceanview-for-oceanview, Etc. The Shows Are On Two Completely Different Production Levels And Money Invested. In My Opinion, If You Can Afford A Disney Cruise In A Balcony Room, With The Whole Family, Then The Two Of You Should Be Able To Get An "ss" Or "s" Suite On The Zuiderdam And Enjoy That As Well. Duty First!
