What phone service works in Alaska?

I had cingular and It was like calling your neighbor. Very clear 5 bars. The funny thing is some people on the cruise were afraid of how much it was going to cost a min. to call the U.S. I had to remind them that they were still in the U.S. And still some of them questioned that. But it is definitely one of the most amazing state's and place's in the world. Not to mention beautiful too.

I've had very good service with Verizon. Never have service in Skagway- including my last trip a few weeks ago. But my friend who went with me had way superior service compared to mine. Got a call in on a sea day, out in the middle of nowhere, south of the Dixon Passage with a CHEAP Walmart Tracfone. :) And regular minute usage.

I just got back from AK and my cingular service was great. Only when we were in Glacier Bay and on the ocean did I not have service. Inside passage and Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan was not problem.
