We are thinking of Doing the Millennium transatlantic

Unfortunately, one can never predict what Mother Nature has in store.

But it is probably no coincidence that regularly scheduled transat service (Cunard) doesn't start until April.

Millie is headed over early for a drydock. She is going to have new auxiliary diesels installed to help run her power plant. The high distilled fuel she presently uses is extremely expensive compared to diesel. So this should help reduce her operating expenses.

Weather and sea-state always a "crapshoot".

We did a trans-Atlantic, 3-98, Buenos Aires Argentina to Barcelona Spain and the water was like a millpond. Granted, that was the South Atlantic, not the North Atlantic.

We've done several trans-Atlantics in the fall/early winter, and have had a couple of fairly rough crossings, which does add to the adventure!

The package I am looking at is $2000 per person for an outside cabin. This includes airfare back to Ft Lauderdale and 2 nights in London at a 4 star hotel all well as transfers to the hotel and the airport. I am just afraid it is to early in the season.

D13 You could use either London Heathrow or London Gatwick. It's around 85 miles to either.

Might be worth hiring a car and driving up there if there are a few of you.

We too have booked the Millie transatlantic March 18th.

The current fare seems great, even with air which looks like it includes transfers. We are traveling with our children:will be 12 and 8.

Right now we have a deposit on the Summit Hawaii cruise for same time, but this fare is the same price including the air from London!

The only downsides might be if the weather is really cold and looks like the only indoor pool is for adults. Also we probably wouldn't be able to stay in London at end as we have to return for school and not sure if there will be any other children. the last time in March when we did a 2 week cruise on NCL, my children were one of 15 on board, including babies and teens!

I will do some weather research on itinierary and weather.

Probably will hold it and decide as we get closer.

Any advice is appreciated.

In 2007 it leaves Ft Lauderdale on March 18th for Southampton. This is very early in the season. Has anyone done a trnsatlantic that early and how was the weather?

We just returned from that CONSTELLATION T/A.

It was most excellent. There was some heavy seas off Nova Scotia

on the northern Atlantic route to Le Harve

but, the CONSTELLATION class ship handled it well.

In May 2005, we cruised the

GALAXY across from Galveston TX to Rome. The Atlantic

crossing was perfect, every day, but, one sorta of drizzly day, but,

the water was smooth.

This cruise, you are refering will be crossing the southern route

across the North Atlantic, via, Bermuda, the Canary Islands, Azores

and, on to Portugal and, Spain. There is a perpetual

Bermuda high weather system that is usually out there during

that part of the year..springtime..

So, with two T/A's behind us, we decided to book this cruise for

next March 2007, on the Millennium. We love the sea crossings

and, hopefully, you will be disappointed. :)
