Theater Seating

Hello All, we have just got back from a wonderful cruise to Mexico on Celebrity's Infinity. One of the things that made the trip so nice was the wheelchair access to the theater. They have a route through the crew area of the ship which puts you right in front, close to the stage. Unlike our previous cruise on the Saphire Princess where there was limited wheelchair seating at the very back of the theater. Because the entertainment is an important part of the cruise to someone in a wheelchair, I thought it would be a good idea to exchange information here. Looking forward to hearing from you. eded@sti.net

This is one of the things we hate about Princess. We get tired of being relegated to the wheelchair ghetto all the way in the back, usually with poor sight lines, often with a grab rail right at eye level, often right in front of speakers blasting in your ears, with no crew policing the area to be sure that the companion chairs are reserved for those accompanying someone in a wheelchair, and late comers tripping over you in the dark. On the Grand and Star the ramp to this area is nearly 20 degrees and hard to get up even with a power chair. We finally gave up going there and only did things in the Galaxy Lounge where you can sit where ever you want. RCCL is pretty much as bad.

Won't it be interested to see if the new ADA regs address this when they are published as there are many precedents now for shore-side movie theater "stadium" seating (most recently a big judgement against AMC, as I remember).

HAL and Crystal, on the other hand, have fully ramped and accessible seating in their show rooms. You can sit where ever you want, even in the front row, and it is easy to find someplace where you can sit with the rest of your party. We love these ships for this. Have no been on Celebrity for a while, but remember the last time it was not very good either. We will check out the Mercury in November.
