You can also fly into Pensacola, FL. Pensacola is less then a hour to the port. Alot bigger airport then Gulfport. All the major airline Cont, American, NW, Delta, Airtran.

I sure hope they add more ships to that port, I think there would be alot more people willing to drive to Mobile if there was more of choice of cruise lines to sail on. Many people are willing to drive there and never mind how inexpensive it is isn't that the point to get a great deal. I was able to get a fantastic rate for my Aug cruise but I also saw rates of over$700.00 during different times of the year for the same cabin on the lowest deck we were upgraded to Empress for less than $241.00pp total. It is also clear that Mobile is trying to cater of sorts to the cruise industry. The Radisson that we will be staying at offers a cruise and park package that can't be beat, I will pay $129.00 for a suite+parking while on the cruise+full breakfast+shuttle to and from port, we added 1 more person to the room and it was only $10.00 more. I would call that a good deal. Despite what some people think there are alot of people who live in the south who would rather not drive to Florida or NOLA. I for one think its great. JMO.:)

Hey Momma...

We live over here in Adamsville.....was on the Holiday April of this year and going back out on 9/30/06....

just love that boat and Mobile is so easy...straight down Hwy 45 - an easy 6 hour trip..

Got super rates both times and with my mil discount the Sept rate was only $718 - outside cabing total for 2 tickets. Got upgraded to Empress last time and expect the same this time 'cause we booked so early.

If they add another ship I'll have to work two jobs :D

How about that.....this will be my 1st time out of mobile 2nd on the Holiday and 6th cruise all together, I'm addicted. I work at the Selmer Wal-Mart so I have to really save as much $ as I can to support my habit. I was wondering how long it would take to drive to Mobile. My mapquest says 9 hrs you say it's 6 any tips on which way to go. Have you stayed at the Radisson before? :)

I didn't know any ships cruised out of Gulfport? Do they still?

No there are no cruise ships in Gulfport at this time. Carnival Conquest sailed from Gulfport for 3 months while the Mississippi river was in a high stage and there were some issues with a low hanging power line over the river that made it dangerous for the ship to sail under it. That issue has been resolved a couple years ago and Conquest resumed sailing from NO. There is talk of Gulfport building a cruise ship terminal but no commitments from any cruise lines that I know of at this time. I think Gulfport is in the unfortunate position of being right in between two Carnival ports already in existence. That may make it difficult to convince Carnival to port a ship there. But maybe another line will bite. :)

Mapquest sucks for accuracy. From Selmer just head down Hwy 45...it's 4-lane all the way to the Alabama line and just a short two lane drive from there to Mobile...you never leave Hwy 45. When you get to Mobile you will intersect with I-65....go right or south for a few miles and hit I-10 go east about 2 1/2 miles and follow the signs to the cruiese ship terminal...easy

We picked up a couple in Savannah the last time and it took 6 1/2 hrs and we stopped four times....DO NOT go down I-65 to B'ham...it is out of the way.

Never stayed at the Raddison....I'm a cheap Motel 6 type of guy ha ...spend my money on the ship.:D

Email me and we will talk more.

I am down here attending a conference, and the DW said we had to stay at least one more day so we could at least see the Holiday.

I know when the Holiday went back into service, the Mayor said he sure would like to see another ship in Mobile, and pointed to theCarnival ships (I think the Ecstacy was one) which were still in dry dock.

My convenstion has been in the Outlaw Center, which is next to the park and the Cruise Terminal. The Terminal looks very impressive, but there is no way to have two ships in port at the same time. Room is very limited.

I will go out on the Holiday some time in the near future. I love the Celebration, and can't wait to try out big sister Holiday.

As another one that could easily drive to Mobile, I would love it if they had a second ship. For various reasons, we had to cancel our planned December 2006 RCCL cruise out of NO, and I have spent many hours pricing out possible cruise options in 2007. The airfare for five just doesn't make it easy to consider any cruises out of the traditional ports, like Miami. I need more options that are nearby.

To the poster that sent the link from this morning's news . . . Thanks! Keep us all updated, so we can be some of the first to book a cruise on that second Mobile ship.

From the left coast, Gulfport is much cheaper than Mobile or Pensacola. Perhaps it is because of the international status or casino subsidies or ?

That still leaves getting to Mobile + if I'm going to fly into Gulfport, I'd just as soon get on a ship in Gulfport. And I know Gulfport would love to have a cruise ship. It would certainly help Mississippi recover.

I don't object to Mobile getting more or at least a larger ship - just wasn't sure it made sense.

That's the problem with flights into Gulfport or Pensacola. They are cheaper than Mobile, but if that is not where you want to end up at it's probably cheaper and quicker just to spend the extra $$$ and fly straight to Mobile. And yes, Gulfport flights are, or at least used to be subsidized by the casinos. And AirTran service to Pensacola used to be subsidized by the local businesses guaranteeing a minimun amount of business to keep them flying there. I don't know if they still do that. I'm wondering what international flights Gulfport has as I see no international airlines in their list of airlines?

The additional problem is that I can fly to any cruise port in the continental US for less than what it costs me to get to Mobile. Often I can fly to Puerto Rico or St Thomas or others for the same price.

As for international, perhaps they have customs and immigration facilities? I do see they have flights to Dallas. :D
