maryr65 Posted June 12, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2006 In the Chicago Tribune today there was short paragraph on ambushes occuring in the areas of Mountain Pine Ridge and Chiquibul Forest Reserves. It stated that groups of tourists are held up in areas on Caracol Road and Rio Frio Caves.Authorities have asked that tour companies give them a month's notice of groups going in so they can provide police escorts. Has anyone experienced any of the above? We're going in December and are interested in the ruins tour and possibly a few others. I do realize that the cruise companies wouldn't want to risk the safety of it's guests, but it sure makes me wonder.
Pumbaamd Posted June 12, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2006 We had the same "short paragraph" in today's Washington Post. (Guessing both paper's subscribe to the same service?). It also said to go to http://www.travel.state.gov. for more info. Went there, found nothing. Makes one feel that some of these Sunday travel sections are not too reliable.
