Belize Safety & Tours

Recommended Posts

In the Chicago Tribune today there was short paragraph on ambushes occuring in the areas of Mountain Pine Ridge and Chiquibul Forest Reserves. It stated that groups of tourists are held up in areas on Caracol Road and Rio Frio Caves.Authorities have asked that tour companies give them a month's notice of groups going in so they can provide police escorts.

Has anyone experienced any of the above? We're going in December and are interested in the ruins tour and possibly a few others. I do realize that the cruise companies wouldn't want to risk the safety of it's guests, but it sure makes me wonder.
