There is a group of us girls going on a cruise and most of them have never been on a cruise before. I have tried to write down a few things they may find helpful to bring on the cruise that most people don't think of until they are on the ship and it's too late, (i.e.: power stripe with 3 outlets, raincoat, highlighter for "Capers", post it notes, etc.) Any one have any other ideas. It would be a great help to all of us. Thank you.

THANKS JOHN........I knew I could count on all of you to come up with original ideas.

Your own mask and snorkel, if you plan on doing any skin diving shore excursions (at the very least, your own snorkel).

 

In all honesty, you could probably halve these lists, and then multiply that by .5, and you will still have too much stuff. That said, we brought a lot of the things on the list, and in afterthought I would say it's better to have and not need, than to need and not have:)

Of all the things on that packing list, I have found that the things you might forget to pack (nobody forgets to pack clothes, books, etc) I absolutely think are indispensable are:

 

1. Travel alarm clock. Some ships don't have clocks for you.

 

2. Antibacterial wipes. They claim they sanitize the room, but really? People disembark the ship at 9 AM and by 12:30, there's a whole new group of people boarding. They really have time to sanitize the toilet seats, handles, sink faucets, etc? I am not a germophobe usually, only in relation to all things bathroom.

 

3. Extra plastic bags. Grocery bags or ziploc bags, they are invaluable for dirty clothes, that conch shell you found in the ocean, etc. You can never have too many and they take up little space.

 

4. A folding rain poncho. Better than a raincoat. Squeeze all the air out and you can keep one in your backpack/purse. You never know when it will rain when you are on shore.

 

 

Things people always mention but I think are not needed:

 

1. Nightlight. Even if you have an inside cabin, just leave the bathroom light on and shut the door most of the way.

 

2. Those over the door shoe things. Unless there's a lot of you in the room or you have lots and lots of clothes, etc., there's plenty of shelf space for you to put your things.

and looking at the "Ultimate Checklist" there are somethings that you might be able to leave off. Like panties. You could go "commando" all week.
