For me... there is no telling...I love it ALL. Although once I walk through to the Centrum and see the ship...it's SSOOOO awsome!!!:D Then...as everyone else says..once muster drill is over (urrg)..then vacation offically starts for me!!:D At the time of departure I like to be on the pool deck looking towards the ocean and watch out thinking "I'm really here..now lets PARTY"!!! LOL

Another thing I love is when you wake on the first morning and you have that moment between sleep and awake where everything is blank. Its dark in the cabin and then suddenly and slowly you realise you are not in your own bed.

Brilliantly put! I know the feeling. You are sort of in this cocoon-like state completely unaware of the external environment. Then a sliver of light enters the cabin and your vision gradually comes into focus. You sorta shake your head knowing something is not right. There is a lingering, unique fragrance in the air. Just then you spot the oh-so familiar shape of the bottle of Jose Cuervo and not-so-familiar shape of the stranger in bed with you. Carefully gathering up your clothes and the bottle of Cuervo you head back to your own bed in your own cabin before your spouse runs out of money in the Casino.

Wow..it's good to know that I am not the only one who goes through this on every cruise. ;)

oh for crying out loud - boatbuilder - STOP IT. I hate snorting water through my nose. I was a writing major in college and a frustrated professional writer held hostage by a real job. You have me beat, my friend. I bow to your supreme power.

I have only been on one cruise. But with the 14 day Hawaiian cruise coming in 2007, I think it will be when we walk on board and then we have a balcony this time and the first time we sit on that balcony watching the beautiful sea go by. I can't wait. :p

Note to self: Wear safety glasses and raincoat if meeting wolfganghowell at Meet & Mingle.

I can relate to the frustrated writer dilemma. My work requires some report writing, but it is mostly technical stuff and humor is not always appreciated. My DW is always encouraging me to finish my half-written screenplay. I'll hammer out a scene or two and then go back to my real job and I won't touch the screenplay for a few weeks. For now, this is about as creative as I get. :p

Boat - I work in the film business so I feel your pain. My favorite outlet is torturing large quantities of actors. It dulls the pain of making my career all about THEIR career. Apparently my scathing emails chastising them for their many faults have quite a following here in Texas. Ha ha.

And I shall know you by the raincoat and sunglasses. If you throw a scarf around your neck, you're putting a mental picture of Truman Capote in my brain so I shall now read all your posts in a Capote voice. Which will make them even more "special."

Please..lose the Capote image. Instead, perhaps a tall Dennis Miller (sans beard) or as my DW says... Simon Cowell without the British accent. (The raincoat and safety glasses are in the event you pass water, beer or even 12 yr old single malt scotch thru your nose again in person) When I was in high school I once made some joke and a classmate ended up streaming milk out his nostrils onto my plate and onto the kid next to me. It was hilarious but gross. Since then I have been very cautious about delivering punchlines to anyone in the process of having a drink. :D

Interested to know everyone's favourite bit of cruising in the first 24 hours!

For me its seeing the ship for the first time - when it comes into view from your coach!

Then, I love it when you have your first photo taken as you board - you know that getting onboard is only seconds away! Then you pass through and onto the ship and get the first glimpse of her! Its just magic & so exciting!

Oh - and then of course, when you set sail and you're off! Nothing can beat it!

What about you?

I like to grab a nice fruity drink and start exploring the ship...and grab a bite to eat as it's usually quite a bit of time between our last meal

What a thought provoking question, very good! There really is a magical feeling as the ship comes into view. The heightened anticipation derived of the realization that “we’re here!” softens the embarkation. And finally…the picture! Let the magic begin! Enter the ship! Explore! Settle into the cabin. It’s all amazingly fun and exciting! But for me…THIS is when the cruise truly begins…

I’m standing on the balcony…my beautiful lover in my arms. The warm sultry tropical air surrounds us and fills our senses. El Morro slowly glides by the ship. She is magnificent…she is strong, and her lights combine with the moon and starts to create a hypnotizing romance. My lover has never seen anything like it. She is awe struck and transformed, from a twenty-first century modern woman, to a seventeenth century maiden being rescued by her Prince. We embrace each other and gaze eye to eye. The KY is at home, it won’t be required. :p

Because I have already blown in my pants!

The best think for me is seeing the shp for the first time!

I always remember our first cruise, it was out of Fort Lauderdale, as we travelled to the top of the escalator, all we could see was our ship right in front of us through the windows - I couldn't believe it could be so big!!

This cruise we are going with some people that will be cruising for their first time. I'm so looking forward to viewing everything for the first time again through their eyes.

The next best thing is standing by the pool with my pina colada listening to the music and watching land disappear!

Happy cruising everybody - enjoy the majic everytime you step on board!!

Kim.

My favorite part is getting ready to sail. Watching the radar spin up, having my Mango Tango in hand, the calypso band starts to play and then you're off.

The first dinner is also great. I love to meet the wait staff and the table partners, although we haven't outsiders at our table in a few years. Some how we have always sailed with enough people to fill a table. We'll see what happens this voyage.

Sitting on the bus and seeing the ship for the first time:D. Setting both feet on the Ship. Then I am home. MY Husband could'nt care less. I am the excited one. When he is on the balcony the day at sea then he his excited. I too like the ding dong of the elevator, getting dress for dinner, :cool:going to the theatre and then dancing. Honey I am cruising, I am home.

eight months and days to Liberty and a Junior Suite and Diamond. :o ;) :D

the smell of the hallways walking to your rooms. it doesn't seem to matter what ship or cruise line your on, it is still the same smell. not bad, but nothing special about the "smell". it's unique only to cruising and it makes me feel at home. also the sound that the wind makes in your ears when you are full speed in the middle of the ocean standing on deck! love taking a shower before getting ready for dinner after a sweaty day at the pool! so refreshing and a 2nd wind.

Seeing the ship, as you pull into the harbor is neat, but the best part for us is the sail-away.........watching the dock become smaller and smaller, drink in hand, caribbean band playing..........and hoping the cruise will get extended, for some unknown reason.................
