Where can I get some Canadian currency?

ATM! Much easier and cheaper than anything else. I've used my ATM card all over the world with at most a 1% charge over the bank rate at the time. Much better deal than most anything else (unless your bank charges for foreign ATM use).

 

One of my favorite stories was getting Dutch Guilders at the bank here in the U.S. and finding out when we got there that those had been "retired" a few years earlier and were no longer valid. We got a free tour of the Dutch equivalent of the Federal Reserve Bank to change them for valid Guilders. That was the last time I really tried to plan ahead.

We'll be on the Sapphire southbound cruise, and then will spend two

nights in Vancouver, B.C.

 

My question is, where shall we get some Canadian dollars? Can we exchange

U.S. dollars while aboard the cruiseship just so that we have some Canadian

currency for a taxicab? I also read that we can get currency at Canada

place out of some vending machine?

 

We'll be arriving on Saturday, and it is also a holiday in Canada isn't it,

July 1? So I know the banks won't be open either.

 

I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me in this regard.

 

Or is the U.S. dollar widely accepted in B.C.? Oh, or do you think I should

just go to American Express or someplace down here in the states and

get a bit of CND currency?

The US dollar is accepted widely in Vancouver, and I wouldn't spend your money needlessly to exchange money before you go. In fact, the few cents you may lose on the dollar will be so small, it simply isn't worth making an exchange at all, since there are service fees for exchanging! Bring them your US dollars and use the Canadian coins to put in your scrapebook! LOL!
