afternoon in Visby

Recommended Posts

Our itinerary was recently modified due to G8 summit and we are only spending 4 hours in Visby. Allowing for time to get off and on ship it doesn't leave much time for sightseeing. Anybody have any suggestions of what we can or should do with no more than 3 hours to spend?

Does anyone know if the ship docks right in the heart of the town?

Your post doen't mention what ship you will be on, but if it is of any size at all, you will have to tender in. The port is very small. Visby is a pleasant city with several points of interest near the tender pier which include many buildings from the Middle Ages, the old city wall and botanical gardens - all are easily walkable. It should be a pleasant afternoon if the weather is nice.

We last went in 1999 on the old P&O Arcadia and had to tender in which can be time consuming.

We had a lovely time just wandering around the old town within the walls. It was so peaceful and beautiful. Then we went outside the walls and found a roundabout, busy roads, traffic, supermarkets, etc. It quite spoiled the illusion!!!!

For a couple of hours there is lots to see in the old town of Visby without the need to go further afield.
