New York questions???

We are considering a round trip New England/Canada cruise this fall. Do all the cruise ships dock at the same terminal in NYC? Which airport(s) are nearest the cruise terminal? We do not know which cruise line we will sail with at this point.

Natasha - NCL and Carnival sail from the Passenger Ship Terminal in Manhattan, RCI and Celebrity sail from Cape Liberty in New Jersey, and Cunard and Princess sail from a new terminal in Brooklyn. With the exception of Newark being relatively close to Cape Liberty, the airports are not close to the terminals, since LaGuardia and JFK are both in Queens. I wouldn't base my flight decision on the airport.

Also not close is a relative term...

Brooklyn(NY) Terminal from LGA is 12 miles, from EWR(newark) 16, Kennedy(JFK) its also 16 miles, 20 or 24 depending on which way you go.

Manhattan(NY) is 9 miles from LGA, 16 from Newark and 20 from Kennedy.

Bayonne(NJ) is 8 miles from Newark, 20 from LGA and 30 from Kennedy.

Newark is in NJ both LGA and JFK are in Queens-within NY City border.

The Cab/Limo fares when you cross from NJ to NY(or vice versa) can get expensive. In most cities those mileages to the airport all of them would be considered relatively close.

We have a hold on a Princess cruise out of the Brooklyn cruise terminal. Princess charges $40 a person each way for a transfer from the airport. How much would a taxi be for 2 people? Does Super Shuttle go to the cruise terminal?

Is this from LGA? If its any other airport its a good price. If its from LGA a cab for two will be 30.00 or so. Super shuttle you will have to call.

www.supershuttle.com has the phone number.

Cabs from EWR will be $90.00(75 plus tolls and tips) and Kennedy $40-60 plus tip no tolls)

We are taking train into Grand Central the morning we depart. I think I recall reading that there is a taxi stand at the Lexington Avenue exit from Grand Central, is this correct?

Yes there is one on lexington Avenue. From GC on a weekend morning I would have him take the East Side Highway to the Brooklyn Bridge- over the brooklyn Bridge do not take the first exit fo straight ahead about 6 lights to Atlantic Avenue. a right on atlantic avenue to the end...a left after you get under the highway and then a right at the first place you can make a right--- can't miss the cruiseterminal its well signed. No traffic 15 minutes---should be about 20.00 plus tip- no toll this way...

Are these the directions to Norwegian's cruise terminal at 711 12th Avenue and 55th Street? That is where we are cruising out of. Just checking.

No those are directions to Brooklyn....to the Manhattan terminal its easier and much shorter... a right on 42nd street to the 10th Avenue and a right on 10th Avenue to 59th Street make a left and then another left after you are under the highway. Its three miles and should be 10-15.00 depending on traffic, and whether a new surcharge for cabs is inacted for the cost of fuel....again 15 minutes except for the last part by the docks that can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour...

The $40 shuttle price is from either LaGuardia or JFK to the Princess ship.

Is this round trip? It is a good price from JFK but a little high from LGA. Where are you flying from? The only domestic flights that fly into JFK (usually international long hauls) aside from Jet Blue are usually those from the West Coast. If you are flying East of the Mississippi, chances are you will not be able to use JFK only EWR and LGA.

We'd be flying from a middle sized airport in Michigan through Detroit or Chicago. The $40 is one way.
