Shaken_Bake Posted June 30, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2004 It has to do with potential blood donors being turned down because they visited Tulum where apparently malaria-bearing mosquitos are rampant. (First I've heard of this, although I've read many articles and message boards about Playa del Carmen and Tulum) Just thought this was interesting given a lot of visitors to Cozumel go over to the mainland to visit Tulum... http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=47938

Shaken_Bake Posted July 1, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted July 1, 2004 Hi Texem, Great post, thanks! I hope your information will relieve many people who might otherwise be afraid to travel to Tulum. It is essentially the same information I found when I further researched the issue. Basically, malaria-bearing mosquitos are extremely rare along the coast. Blood donation restrictions might be overly cautious, but I suppose it's something they don't want to risk. The upshot is, go to Tulum and enjoy it!
