Just booked Legend of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just booked a July 07 Med cruise on the Legend. I just came back from the Grandeur on Sunday from a 9 night caribbean trip. Has anyone been on the Legend recently and how does she look. The Grandeur was starting to show her age but still looked great and we had a great cruise. Has anyone been on a Med cruise and what tours are a must. Going to Rome, Cyprus, Alexanderia, Athens, Pompeii, and Turkey. Thanks for any help.

Nancy,

Wish we could go in May or June. I know it's going to be hot in July but I have one graduating from high school and one from college so those times are reserved for proms and graduations. I would wait another year, but my daughter REALLY wants to go in 07. Any thoughts about how hot it's really going be?

We are about to sail on the legend from southampton to the Med. August 5th..this will be our second med cruise on her..having first sailed last year on the classics itinery ..this year we are on the Treasures..She is a lovely ship..looking pristine last year as she was just out of drydock. All reports recently suggest she is just as lovely this year. There is lots of glass. a feature I love..so loads of sea views and very light and bright. She is spotlessly clean..and has a warm friendly atmosphere. The crew were great..the ports wonderful..and the food good. A Nice addition, is the new bedding being put in all the cabins this past cruise. They include all new bed frames with anti sagging features..new foam pillow top mattresses.. soft pillows..and Egyptian cotton sheets. New box valances..and bedspreads and a decorative scarf for across the bottom. Last year a Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream..and a Latte tudes coffee bar were added. As well as, a renovation of the Windjammers Cafe..where individulal food stations were set up on either side with sections for fruits..salads..hot foods.. breads. soups..cakes.. etc. so no need to que in one long line..or to cross over..Each side was duplicated. A Lovely ship we felt. We really enjoyed our cruise..and are looking forward to 6 weeks from now when our kids sail with us for their first cruise.

Regarding the weather, we were quite comfortable in early august. not too hot. There had been a heatwave a couple weeks before..that lasted a few days according to the news. so it is hard to estimate. But coming from Florida..and living in England for 25 years where it is much cooler..it was certainly not as hot as Florida..and not too hot for an Englishman.. Obviously the weather always changes. We called in rome..and we personally chose the rome on your own excursion..basically just using the ships bus to escort us to Rome..but then tour on our own. It was excellent. traveled in air conditioned comfort and arrived relaxed..dropped us off in front of the Vatican..and met us again 5 hrs later. There is also a half tour half free time excursion..and several others. coming all the way from the US..a detailed tour might be better. so you see as much as possible. you can come across private tour companies on the internet as well. I just feel secure if I am with the ships group. It is 90 minutes to Rome from the Port..of Civitevecchia. Our other ports were in spain..Portugal,corsica and France..

I am pleased to see you are booked for summer 2007..that itinery has only been mentioned here on the royal Caribbean website.. it is not in our brochures..or advertised with our TA's. We found it quite accidently and discovered the Italian cruise to Venice and Livorno with 2 days in each..august 11th 2007..so we have booked for the 3x..on Legend. No One here has heard of it..so I am wondering if this will be a more US oriented cruise. Hopefully, I will still be welcome..as I am American..but living in the UK for 25 years. all the best, Carol

Sherry,

Well, being that we are from Florida, anything is a break from the hot and humid summers here. I think it will be a fantastic cruise, whatever the month! Congrats to your kids on the graduations!

Carol...thanks for the reply. Glad to hear that you enjoy the Legond of the Seas. This will be our first Royal Caribbean cruise, and our kids first time over seas. We looked at several different ships, but the kids had just both done reports on Ancient Rome and Athens, and really wanted to see this part of the world.

We are booked in a JS on deck 8. We got an aft cabin...I wonder if in your travels, have you by chance had one of these? I understand they are right under the sports deck. I have this thing for sleeping at night...I just hope that means that there isn't a basketball hoop over head!:p

Have a fantastic weekend!

Nancy

We had a JS AFT Cabin on deck 8 last year on the transatlantic and was so pleased with it we have booked the same cabin for the transatlantic this year in Oct, larger than normal balcony, great sitting there having breakfast watching the ships wake and we didn't have any problems with noise from the sports deck.

Anne,

I am going with my oldest daughter on July 6.

I just got back from a cruise with my younger 2 girls to the caribbean. They won't appreciate the history in Rome and Athens. We were in Mexico and they only wanted to shop. I told them when the graduate from college I'll take them wherever they want to go. A win-win situation for me.

Carol,

Thanks for all the great info. I loved Grandeur and Legend is the same class so I'm sure it will be great.

We are staying a couple of days before and after to give us plenty of time in Rome. We booked an inside cabin but I'm starting to rethink that idea. I didn't spend any time in the cabin last time and I think I'd rather have the extra money for excursions. I'll watch the prices since there is still plenty of time to change.

I understand the Legend was just dry docked and renovated in earl 2005 and is scheduled for another dry dock and renovation in early 2007. Should be just like new. I'm booked to sail on 5/19/07, so I'll let you know.

Matt, Curious as to where you got the info about the Legend going into drydock for renovation in early 07?? because according to it's schudule for next year it has western caribbean cruises up until it leaves Tampa for it's 15 night transatlantic crossing on 21st April, it then starts a 13 night cruise out of Rome on the same day as it arrives, May 6th!!

We were on the transatlantic cruise last October after it had been into drydock and they really made a great job, especially completely gutting out the windjammer, we are back on it again for the transatlantic in Oct.

John.

Hi anne...So sorry I have missed your post..I have been really unwell..3rd week now and finally made the doctors on Monday. He gave me new asthma medication I must take contiuously for a month. One medication I must take permanently. It is slowly starting to work..and I am getting back on my feet. I spoke with Liz about a week or more ago. I can't email any AOL addresses ..they are all returned by the postmaster. Apparently as we are on Hotmail. she said that you were concerned for us..and had sorted a better air deal. I am So glad you got a decent Air fare...Liz sent a Ya hoo address in the end. so I was finally able to reply....and I asked her to pass on my regards..and a sincere thank you for thinking of us. can

We don't know how our TA Gemma...worked out the prices...as they still don't show the cruise themselves.. only RC in the Uk..although the US seems to have it on many TA sites. The invoice receipt doesn't give a breakdown.. Just the total amount..less the deposit and insurance we paid. So based on £1479....I think the Balcony cabin shows on RC...We are paying £1585 with RT airfare to Rome...and RT transfers to and from the port...included. So £100..($180 each) I had expected a big rush for these cruises..so I didn't want to wait...and felt it seemed realistic.I don't know if that will change as time goes by. but if we cancel at any time..or ammend our reservation...we pay a 10% penalty of the entire booking cost. that is the only downfall to this TA.

Anyway... I hope you have been well. Please keep in touch. All the Best, Regards, Carol

Hi Derek...I will try to send you an Email..hopefully it will transmit OK. with the travel agent info...I don't think I can mention names on here. yes, I found the original advert on RC for the cruise quite by accident..rumour was she was being sold..as Legend was overlooked in all the summer 2007 brochures and advertising. she is not advertised even with our TA...it goes up to April...then picks up from Dec. All the summer is missing. No UK TA websites as far as I know.A friend sent us a Bulletin from Cruise King....Announcing thes cruises..and saying the Venice and Livorno 2 day stops.. was the best Med itinery ever and would be on the books soon. It does seem to be promoted in the US., however.

As there are no other prices to compare other than RC...all we could judge is the airfare...which we are paying £100 each..that includes transfers to and from the port...and departure from our regional airport..which required a supplement.

Golden princess sounds wonderful..I would like to hear more about it.. regards, carol

Hi Dadstoy....If you loved Grandeur..I am sure you will love Legend as well. We sail in 5 weeks..I keep forgetting that. When we booked 2007 a few weeks ago...this years cruise went right out of my head. We leave August 5th...with my twin daughters and their fellas..for their first cruise.I will be able to tell you how things appear from last year...and of course..james who posted here..has just come back. off legend. We also are going to try to spend a couple days in Rome. the itinery is my dream come true. Last year we wxpected just the one cruise..and here we are booked for 2 and 3...testiment to what an amazing time we had.

If it isn't much difference....I would recommend a window. I loved ours...it was so fantastic to watch the waves and see other ships..and all the excitement of the ports. when you opened the cabin door..the view filled the room. 5 or 6 feet across by 3 or 4 feet high. Really big. The room was always light and bright. And when we arrived in port early..I could watch it all happen sat on my bed looking out of my window. I loved our cabin. We were on deck 3..cabin 3024 forward last year. We are More midship this year..cabin 3038...daughters have connecting cabins 3032/3034......BUT..Next Year we have a Balcony..on deck 7...very much reduced from this years prices. I just Can't believe it!! So long for now, regards, Carol
