HockeyBoysMom Posted June 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2006 I have a full length gown for formal night that is black satin with a pink underskirt and embrodered pink flowers on it. The pink is pretty bright, sort of bubble-gum colored. What I am wondering is that I have a pashmina that is the same color and I am unsure that would be an acceptable wrap for such a formal dress? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks. Dusty
Cats' slave Posted June 25, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2006 The way I'm picturing it in my mind, I'm worried that the pink would detract from what sounds like a gorgeous dress. If you're just going to carry it with you in case you get cold in the dining room, then I think it would be fine.
missyal Posted June 26, 2006 #3 Share Posted June 26, 2006 Personally, I love a bright color with black as long as it's not overdone. So if your gown has pink already, just make sure the wrap isn't too overpowering. But like the other poster said, if it's just in case you get chilled, no big deal. Bottom line-if you like it, wear it. You will probably never see anyone in that dining room again! Missyal
HockeyBoysMom Posted June 26, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted June 26, 2006 I do want the wrap only for if it gets chilly. We are cruising to Alaska and from the looks of the weather reports, we aren't going to be blessed with great weather, so I am worried about being chilled in a halter dress. I didn't want to go buy a black wrap, if the pink one I already have would work. Thanks. Dusty
Happy ks Posted June 26, 2006 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2006 The temps in the dining room in Alaska will be the same as the temps in the dining room on a Caribbean cruise. So, if you get cold in the dining room in the C, you will probably need the wrap. I'd probably do black, so I would have a wrap that went with more than one dress. Jane110 Posted June 26, 2006 #6 Share Posted June 26, 2006 From your description, even though the pinks match, I think the shawl is going to distract from the color impact of the dress. I think a black shawl is a better choice - your dress will stand out more. Many of the discount stores sell rayon shawls for under $15.00 and even some of the cruiseline gift shops sell them as well. Or perhaps you have a friend you can borrow one from?
sweetpea-2 Posted June 26, 2006 #7 Share Posted June 26, 2006 your dress sounds very pretty but the wrap may be too over powering for your dress and take away from it

I especially like the fact you chose a pink one instead of a black one. That will pick up the embroderiery and underskirt of your gown.
