You can walk all around Devil's Island in an hour. It is a very interesting place and there are informational signs at most locations and maps are available with specific buildings and spot labeled. The hotel is also quite a place- never expected to find the lobby full of people. We saw monkeys, a cayman, parrots and other animals whose name I forget - looked like giant rats. There is a small shop in the hotel where you can buy t shirts, etc. There are actually 3 islands and I was told you can hire a boat to go to one of them. We did not as it was raining but the place is actually quite pretty if you don't think about its former purpose.
