Villefranche

Recommended Posts

Walk to Bealiue-sur-mer. There are several good beaches - and they're all within a 45 minute walk of your ship. The first is opposite the cassino and the quieter is past all the restaurants in the harbourt and is called Little Africa because it gets so hot.

I would take the train to Nice in the morning and walk around the old city or go to Cannes and go to the beach area there as well as see some of the city. There is a lot to see on that whole area if you have not been before, and it would be ashame to miss it.you can do it on your won by local train or bus.

Okay--help. I am a compulsive planner (always dreaming of the next trip) and saw a walking tour of Villefranche posted here recently that I thought I had printed to put in my file. We loved Villefranche and hope to return soon. Can anyone point me to that walking tour.

Thanks so much,
Donna

Do you remember how long the train ride is from Villafranche to Nice?
Thanks,
Becky

Hi

If you're interested at all in a van tour, I can't say enough good things about Revelation Tours. I dealt with Michel Legrand - you can contact him at revelationtours@aol.com

Becky,

According to Rick Steves (my new best friend), the train ride from Ville to Nice is 2 hrs., 10 min., and costs E1.60 each way. From the port, the train station in Ville is a 30 minute walk along the shore (not sure of the area), or a E16 taxi. It sounds like the train system is easy to work with and that people are travelling to Nice all the time from Ville.

I'm hoping to find someone to split a cab with on June 14!

uddanielle,

I'm afraid your new best friend doesn't know what he's talking about. VF is the next stop out of Nice and is approximately 5 minutes on the train.

The station is a short walk around the bay but up a very steep vertical flight of stairs. Nice station at the other end is in an "unuseful" part of town and requires a long walk to the old town and the sea. A taxi from VF will cost around 30 euros - and ask to be dropped off at the Cours Saleya (Nice old market place) or instead in VF walk up through the town to the "main road" and take the regular bus (100) to Nice port or bus station which costs E2.10 each return.

If you decide on a taxi these may need to be pre-booked as I've rarely seen taxi's at the rank - but I've not arrived at VF by boat.

Look at the map!

dbh62ark, I know VF very well and I suppose there is just about a decent walk - but I can't see much more than a few minutes around the old town then the castle - I guess 30 minutes in all. VF is scenic - but very small.

I've posted details of other walks on the board that take in VF, beaulieu and Cap Ferrat.

Hi, I agree with testimonials from above cruiser Bev, check out www.revelation-tours.com Everytime I e-mail to them, I know I will get a response within 12 hours, and their rate is very reasonable for a van of 8 people!!!
Also want to say hi to Nanette 4 cruisers, my mom is French speaking too, and she really looks forward to spending a fantastic day in S. of France...Did not know this is your 5th trip to Mediterranean. Have fun...

Kim, where are you in So. Calif? We're in Glendora. Just lately I've noticed people from cities all around us on CC!

I am exicited for you leaving so soon! Your itinerary is great too! I look forward to reading about your trip!

We have a 7th grade "boy"...too bad we weren't on the same ship! He just informed me "not to answer the phone because it's a bunch of 8th grade girls who just giggle! He's a guitar player (Jack Johnson, Jet, and even Jimmy Buffet...a trip to Jamaica brought that about!). What an interesting age this is!

I apologize... I misread the book, which said 2/hr 10 min, which I took to say 2 hr. 10 min until closer look.
