Checking bags in early?

I will be sailing out of New York in a few weeks. I'm coming in on my sailing date on the red eye. I land at 7am and was thinking about going to spend a few hours at Coney Island since I will have a few hours to kill.

 

Does anyone know how early they will accept bags at the terminal for check in? Could I show up at the terminal at around 930 or 10am, check my bags in with the ship then leave for a few hours and come back later for embarkation? I'm thinking this is a long shot because of disembarkation of previous passengers, but I am trying to avoid the cost of having to hire a car for the whole day.

I may be mistaken, but I know at the Los Angeles port there is not a place to check in and leave luggage. So I would say no (once the porters arrive however you can give them your bag that are being checked in, I'm not sure how early this happens

I called Princess about this, since I want to do the same thing. (Only in Venice, not in New York). They said I could check my bags in at any time while the ship was there.

 

Hope that helps. You might want to call Princess just to double check about NY.
