Morning suggestions at Denali

We're on Princess' CruiseTour 6S, arriving Denali from Fairbanks on July 28. Based on advice received on CC, we've canceled the July 29 a.m. Natural History Tour and independently booked the afternoon 7/28 Tundra Wilderness Tour. This will leave several hours free while others are on their Natural History Tour. We're seniors who, unfortunately, can't do much in the way of strenuous activities. Any suggestions on what to see/do during this time would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Mike

You could do things at the visitor center--worth a look around for sure. The National Park Service also has a sled dog talk and demonstration for free (with free bus ride) at 10 a.m (and two other times of the day)--need to be on the bus by ~9:20 or so if I recall correctly.

You could also go out to Jeff King's and see Iditarod racing dogs for $$$ http://www.huskyhomestead.com/ . We did both, and Jeff King's is definitely better (puppy holding, more explanation about the Iditarod, etc.). You'll have to decide if it is worth the cost.

Are you arriving from Fairbanks via bus??? You may have time, but probably not for the 10 am dog sled demo?? You could take the shuttle to Savage River, again if you are arriving early?? The visitor center is definately worth a look.

As only a suggestion- I never recommend the Tundra Wilderness tour independently booked. If an option, the Toklat Shuttle goes to the same mile for about $20, significantly less than you are paying, and just as good. There is a 12pm trip, that you could easily take, since it sounds like you are going to be in the park before then?? Would be back in plenty of time to get the Princess lodge shuttle.

We arrive from Fairbanks on Princess' train early the afternoon of July 28. After checking into the Princess lodge, Aramark's TWT will pick us up and we'll spend the rest of the day doing their tour. Since we canceled the July 29 morning Natural History Tour, my question was for recommendations during that period.

Thanks, BQ, for the link to Denali!
