Athens on your own

Is it easy to do Athens on your own rather than booking through cruise line?

Yes.Do a aearch on this board page by page and you will find a ton of info re Athens as to sights,how to get around and what not to miss most of it posted in the past few weeks.

The best answer to the OP question is it all depends on the traveler. Yes, Athens can easily be done on your own, but that assumes you do your pre-trip homework and have some "travel sense." We have traveled all over Europe and Asia on our own and always had a great time, avoided the cattle-like herding of many tours, and saved many thousands of dollars. Being on our own also allows us to spend leisure time in cafes, eat long lunches at wonderful restaurants, etc. Speaking of restaurants, if you are Athens overnight I would strongly recommend a place called Daphne's (its on the edge of the Plaka).

We did Athens on our own and had a wonderful day there .... as Hank says, lots of pre-trip planning and a good map, but well worth it. You can cover a lot in one day there!
