has anybody been to Taormina on a Sunday?

Our boat docks at Messina on a Sunday. I was concerned and wrote to a group I found online, which looks like the Taormina Chamber of Commerce, and asked if the shops would be open on a Sunday. They answered back an emphatic "yes". Since then a member of our roll call contacted Carnival with the same question and was given an equally definite, "no". So, I'm coming to the best source I can think of, the CC Europe board. Will we be shopping and dining or trying to find other activities on that day? Thanks
