bonbon663 Posted July 10, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2006 I'm going to Alaska on Infinity in a couple of weeks. I have one more question about formal attire. I know what is required for formal wear, I have that covered. I wonder about after dinner though. Later in the evening, I would like to go the casino or walk around the deck. Do I still have to be wearing my full length gown, or can I change into something a little more casual? Or does formal apply to the whole ship? Thanks in advance. keela1eva2 Posted July 10, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2006 A formal evening means that you should continue this attire for the evening. Why simply not wear it and enjoy being dressed up. That way if you are like me don't have the use of evening dresses except on cruises. This way at least you can break down the cost of the dress by the no of times you wear it. This makes it good value for the price paid.! Sue
tbelian Posted July 10, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 10, 2006 does formal apply to the whole ship? Yes.
soooo excited! Posted July 10, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 10, 2006 bonbon663 - a fellow Canadian ! I'm envious your cruise is so soon - we are going on Infinity next summer and would really appreciate it if you post a review when you get back. Will be looking for lots of detail incl. the schedule for the dress code - want to make reservations for SS U.S. when we get on ship but don't want to miss the dress up nights in the dining room - be good to know the sched. ahead of time, and how many 'informal' etc so I make sure I have enough of the 'proper' clothes ! have a great cruise ! BB5953 Posted July 10, 2006 #6 Share Posted July 10, 2006 I change on formal nights. I always follow the suggested attire for the DR but after dinner we will typically go back to the room and change on formal nights; informal nights I may stay dressed by DH will take his jacket off and on casual nights we obviously don't change. Make the decision that is right for you. Don't change because I do - don't not change because others do not. IMO you need to decide what is right for your vacation. I will say that only 10-15% change in my experience.

jakenashleysmom Posted July 10, 2006 #8 Share Posted July 10, 2006 I'm pretty sure the proper dress is only "required" in the dining room, nobody has any right to dictate how you dress in other areas of the ship, thats up to you. This is only my opinion, its your vacation, enjoy being dressed up till you can't stand it any more!:D
hajekfam Posted July 10, 2006 #9 Share Posted July 10, 2006 It states in the Celebrity Today daily that evening attire is to be observed in all public areas of the ship except the casual dining boulevard. Several people including myself have seen people who changed after dinner denied entrance to the show after dinner. I am not saying that it occurs on every sailing but it does happen. kitty9 Posted July 10, 2006 #10 Share Posted July 10, 2006 jakenashleysmom, unfortunately you are not correct about the code only being during dinner. In the daily newspaper, it plainly states that the code is to be observed in all public areas of the ship after 6pm, with the exception being the casual dining area and the pool and gym/spa. cavkc Posted July 10, 2006 #12 Share Posted July 10, 2006 Does that mean that those wishing to eat in the casual dining area have to absail down the side of the ship and enter through the dining area window so as not to enter into any other public area :D :D . Only joking guys - I personally love the formal nights

chessbriar Posted July 10, 2006 #15 Share Posted July 10, 2006 They request you adhere to the dress code for the entire evening starting at 6:00pm. Of course there are those who will disregard the dress code, but on the whole the majority of all passengers follow the dress code. If you do not wish to have a more formal cruise experience, then maybe Celerbity and their more formal style of cruising aren't for you.

sharpie13 Posted July 10, 2006 #17 Share Posted July 10, 2006 I just returned from sailing on the Mercury in Alaska (great weather by the way) and I would say that 95+% of the guest retained their formal attire throughout both formal evenings. Its fun, its something you don't everyday and we had a wonderful time :)
bububr Posted July 10, 2006 #18 Share Posted July 10, 2006 Its their ship, their rules and you are to abide by the rules as in the small print of your cruise contract. Dave:eek:
jakenashleysmom Posted July 10, 2006 #19 Share Posted July 10, 2006 OK first of all, I happen to enjoy dressing up on cruises, lets get that right out of the way. As far as "rule" following goes............never been a big fan of rules. I'm not feeling the love guys, lighten up. :D
