Sun Questions

We are looking into taking the Sun from New Orleans for our 3rd NCL cruise. Some of the reviews say it was moved to Miami after Katrina. So is it really departing from New Orleans now? We like to play slots so any hints on the casino appreciated. Also what is the parking situation as we will be drining down from Ky.

The Sun sailed out of Houston for part of the year last year, and then moved to Miami. It was originally scheduled to sail from New Orleans, but couldn't because of Katrina. It is scheduled to return to New Orleans this fall -- depending of course on Mother Nature.

Can't help with your other questions. We sailed the Sun to Alaska and had a perfectly wonderful cruise but didn't spend any time in the casino.

We sailed out of Houston last December on her after she was moved to Houston and then to Miami in January. Great ship - wonderful cruise. We did not spend much time in the casino - not our thing really but I didn't hear any complaints about the casino either. Not sure what the new parking or if the old parking is still there. I assume it is as most people were about to get their cars back after Katrina (months later). It was right by the pier and out in the open but fenced in. Everyone that used it that we talked to (sailed four times out of New Orleans) said it worked fine. Have fun! Debbie

One more idea if you are driving. We drove to New Orleans from Houston four times for cruises and what we did was pick up a one way rental car and drop it at the New Orleans airport and get a cab from there to the hotel (night before) or pier. And then we did the same thing to come home. It was only about $50 each way since they seemed to have New Orleans cars that needed to go back to New Orleans. I would call around and get prices from each rental car company and there was always one that had a car that needed to go back that gave me a cheap price to drive it for them so to speak. :) Just an idea - that way I didn't worry about my car at the pier or breaking down on me or putting miles on it.
