20-Somethings on Celebrity?

Hi! My fiance and I just booked our honeymoon cruise from Barcelona to Venice on 7/24/07 (on the Millenium). He and I will be 26 and 25 years old respectively. I was just curious to know what percentage of passengers will be in our age group? And also, are there any activities you think we would be especially interested in while on board? Thanks for any replies!

:D Hi Liz,

My wife,36 and I 33, took are daughter, 7 and my little sister, 20, on the summit (sister ship to Mill) to alaska. While she had not much fun we meat a couple that just got married about your age. They had a great time, Celebrity had a honeymooners activities. It is a older crowd, I will say, but not as bad as I was told before going. We had 1000 kids on board from 0-17. But, it is a great cruise line especially for a newly marrie couple. It will be a great romantic cruise for both of you. Great service. I've been on 11 cruises now and it has been the best. If you want more activities for your age group try Royal (sister company). Hope I helped a little. Congratulations !!!:)

Are you sure you had 1000 kids on board for your cruise, or is that a typo? I don't think it's possible to have that many kids on Summit at one time considering that the passenger capacity is under 2000.

During summer, there tends to be every age group you can imagine, so I don't think you'll have problems meeting people your own age. If you were taking a cruise during the winter months when kids are in school, the average age does go up and probably the average age is 50 and older, but in the summer, that age lowers quite a bit.

Your cruise is quite port intensive, so you won't have as much shipboard things to worry about as you'll be off the ship for much of the time. In the evenings you have the casino, the show and the various lounges. The entertainment isn't what 20 somethings generally are attracted to, but it's really decent entertainment. Make sure you dine at least one night at the Olympic Restaurant----very romantic.

We had several honeymoon couples on our Med. cruise on Millennium last year and they all seemed to have a great time. It is such a port intensive cruise that you're likely to be too tired to party much at night. 'Our' couples were comfortable with the mixed ages of our group that spent a lot of time touring together. Guess it depends on what you're looking for. Hope some folks in your age group post here to help you out.

My husband and I are 27 and 26, respectively. Although our TA told us that this would be the cruise line to find other young professionals, we have yet to meet many. (Mind you we did go to the Galapagos on our last cruise so we already knew ahead of time that we should not expect to see other young people.) We had a great time on both Celebrity cruises with much older people (many could be our grandparents). Most of the people we've met have travel lots and have great stories to tell. We are not party people and like the level of the service and treatment on Celebrity so we won't give up travelling with Celebrity to go with Carnival or NCL (where there are supposedly a lot more younger people).

I was on a week long X Connie European Cruise and half the ship was under 40, and there were alot of varied Europeans, alot of young couples.

It wasn't a carnival party, but the bars were crowded well into 2:00/3;00 am....

I was also on a HAL 12 day European Cruise and 75% of the ship was

70 and over. Lots of Brits, but many more Americans than Europeans. The ship closed down by Midnight (lol)

It being Summer and X, I think you will find a much 'younger' crowd, or

at least a nice mix of all-ages, and/or more Europeans, especially out of Barcelona/Rome/Venice.

Thus the reason my wife and I are on the galaxy Sept 25th, 2006, and via cruise connections. we've run a quite a few mid 30's couples going...

Hope this helps...

In all honesty, you will find very few passengers in your age group. The basic rule is that the longer the cruise the older the passengers. In addition, you have chosen a fairly expensive cruise in Europe which will have expensive airfare as well. It's simply a trip that is not affordable for most people in your age bracket. That being said, you should still have a great time. On a cruise such as this which has only 3 days at sea you will be spending most of your time ashore exploring the ports. As a result, you won't really have that much time to mingle with your fellow passengers so the actual makeup of the passenger base is not really that important.

I am also booked on the Millenium for the same date! Maybe I'll run into you on the ship. First let me answer your question- Celebrity attracks more families and middle age people. Having said that, you are going to love this ship. I have cruised on 17 different ships and 5 on Celebrity. Celebrity is by far the best cruise line. The Millenium is gorgeous! The layout if fantastic and there is truly something for everyone. I sailed on her in 2005 (Transatlantic crossing) and there was really a great mixture of people of all nationalities, as opposed to Caribbean cruises which are largely American.

On the more expensive European cruises- there are going to be older (40+) passengers- simply because not a lot of younger people (especially with children) can't afford them.

I still think you will have a fantastic time (I'm 41 and am traveling with my 5 year old and my parents) and the ports of call are wonderful.

If you need any advice about the Millenium- fire away. I love this ship.

Thanks so much everyone! I'm not too worried, I was just wondering what the average ages are. I've sailed on a few cruises where my sisters and I were the only people under 40.... I guess the good news about that is: the crew LOVED us! After a long winter season, they're not used to working with younger folks, and they are always really nice to us.

I was on the Marco Polo once, and I had mentioned that I thought the watermelon carvings at the buffet were incredible. When I came back to my cabin after being onshore all day, there was a huge carved watermelon in my room that my cabin steward had left for me. I'll never forget that.

So, I have no problem cruising with people older than me. It's actually all I'm used to. Just curious, I suppose. I'm sure we'll be going to bed early every night to get up for excusions anyway. :)

My next question is: How will they seat us at dinner?

We've requested late dinner seating. I suppose I was a little vague in my last question. I meant, is there any "formula" they use to seat us with others? When our TA booked for us, he checked the 25-45 age range and Celebrity knows it's a honeymoon. I was wondering if they use that info to find people to seat us with (ie. other couples and/or people who are also between 25 and 45)? Thanks!

I can only speak about our caribbean cruise. When we did a Thanksgiving cruise last year. It was me and husband and 20 year old daughter and 13 year old son. Celebrity had my son down as being 25 years old. At the dinner table seating Celebrity tries to match people around the same age or families with families. We sat with 1 couple that was on their honeymoon and one couple was getting married at the St. Thomas port.. At first I thought it would be weird and considered having our table switched to be with a family. We stayed and had a lot of fun with these people. If you go with Celebrity request to be at a table with people your same age. Hope this helps.

I was about to ask the same question? 1000 is a heck of a lot of kids. We had about 400 on our Sun cruise last April and the ship was overflowing with them. Now to answer the OP, Europian cruises normally do attract an older crowd, but there will be plenty of 20 somethings to enjoy and sometimes the older people can be fun as well. Summer always brings out the younger group but as kitty said , the entertainment will not be geared to those in your age group. NMNita

In our experience, they try to seat younger couples with other young couples, but sometimes it doesn't work out. Like if the few others have requested tables for two or a different seating time. You can ask to have your table changed if yours is not what you had wished for. However, we've only had one cruise of many where we had a difficult table and we stayed with it for the benefit of another couple who would have been left to deal with the issues by themselveds. Had a reasonably good time and became quite friendly with the other couple. If we had it to do again, would probably request a change early in the cruise.

I always ask to sit at a large of six or more because if you don't like one couple- you are sure to like another one at the table.

Celebrity does a good job matching age groups.

My name is Rebecca, by the way. I'll probably see you on the ship.

My wife and I are both 29 years old and have already been on 2 Celebrity cruises: 1 on Millennium (both of us 27) and 1 on Constellation (both of us 29). Will you be the youngest, non children, people on the cruise? Quite possibly. Also, by choosing a European cruise (and the pricetag that goes with it) you have further eliminated most 20 somethings. That being said, you will have a wonderful time for a honeymoon. If you are looking for a quiet, intimate and romantic cruise, you have picked the right line. If you are looking to get plastered out of your mind and party wild all night, well, you might have goofed in choosing Celebrity. We like X enough that we are have another cruise on Millennium planned for Dec of 07. If you have any specific questions from a 20ish standpoint, email me at tnewebmaster<at>gmail<dot>com.

Bottom line from our perspective: The M-class ships are beautiful (Millennium is the first of this class), the food is very good, and the service is great. There are a lot of quiet places to just hang out on the ship.

If we were looking to be drunk every night of our honeymoon, we'd stay in Iowa... It's the only thing to do here! :)

Also... I hope my question didn't sound ageist. I was just curious to know the demographics of the cruise.

As far as the age group question goes, aside from the 20somethings that come with their parents as part of a family vacation, there will probably not be many. On both of our cruises, however, we did get to know a number of people who we still periodically email; all of them are in their 40s and 50s.

Aside from noticing the age disparity during the first day or two on our first X cruise, we really never paid attention. I guess it just comes down to if you pay too much attention to it, you might feel weird. If you ignore it and just have fun with everyone on the cruise, 20-70 years old, you will have a great time. My advice is to not worry about the age bracket and just enjoy the company of those young and old on your honeymoon.
