Steamboatin Posted July 23, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 23, 2006 Hi, We have sailed 4 times with the Delta Steamboat Company which was recently purchased by another cruise line. Their current name is the Majestic America Cruise Line and can be found by going to the alphabetical listing of cruise lines listed under the "boards" listing of the various cruise lines. You will find numerous references to them there. Also do a search for Delta Queen Steamboat Company, Delta Queen, Mississippi Queen and the American Queen which are their 3 paddle wheel boats. We hav sailed twice on the Delta Queen paddleboat and once each on the Mississippi Queen and the American Queen. The paddle wheel boats go approximately 8 knots per hour and have little to no on board entertainment during the day. You either tour the port of the day or just relax on river days and enjoy the view from the deck in a comfortable chair, rocking chair or swing also you can sit at tables as well while you sip the drink of your choice or as we do just plain ice tea. At night there is a musical show to attend after dinner. A trip on these boats is addictive and extremely relaxing. There is no waves to speak of on the rivers so sea sickness is never an issue. They are a bit pricey when compared to the normal ocean cruise experience. The rooms can be a bit small as well. But you will enjoy yourself. Highly recommend them. Looking forward to our next river cruise. So for more input go to the threads listed under the Majestic American Cruise Line or do a search on their vessels. Now remember that the new owners also have paddle wheelers operating in the Northwest rivers as well. So write or email and ask for their brochures. You will enjoy steamboating.
